Title: Why the Falcon didn't start yesterday - the official FakeNews ;)
Post by: DocCharly65 on May 28, 2020, 07:02:34 AM
Yesterday I watched the preparations for takeoff of the SpaceX capsule on YouTube live and as so often I had an idea...

This is one of my fastest doodles (of course I already had a basics read from an already finished animation)
A fast little tour on CGTrader and I got this:

Untitled.jpg

During the start procedure I saw some closer views of the crew dragon capsule and recognized that the heatshield is colored much brighter than in older reference pictures and in the model.

Some separating and texture work on the model and now we have this...

I hope on Saturday they will have more luck and their staff is more intelligent than mine ;D

Like "oops".

With such an incompetent staff, their spaceship will get impounded for double-parking. You just wait and see!

Thanks my friends :)

The animation is rendering. Quite slow at the moment, because I only have an Generation 4 i7 / 16GB free for the job but
The shadows on the Crew Dragon forced me to set AA8 and the robust adaptive sampler unfortunately causes something like artefacts. Difficult to describe.
At the wall panels on the left you can see, that parts of the joints or spaces are just "deleted". In standard I get smooth and perfect results but pay with 1.5 up to 2x longer longer rendertimes.

As you can see, the classic sampler doesn't cause this effect.

You certainly are a perfectionist. I had to look twice to see what you mean, and it probably wouldn't have bothered any viewer seeing the animation.

Believe me Ulco, it would bother you :)

The crazy thing is, that it is not as bad in a still picture. But in the animation the panel joints would be blinking.
I had this effect in the Starfleet Headquarter animation, where small objects as the far away floating taxis and transporters (approx. 1-3 pixels) were blinking.
I needed some time to find out but setting the renderer to classic sampler solved the problem.

You're right, animation is different. We had the problem of blinking stems of plants when they were too straight up... long time ago, when I still had straight stems :P

yes yes - the ancient times and the straight stems...
