Title: Escape!
Post by: Hannes on August 10, 2020, 04:33:17 AM
Something weird coming from outer space. Or from somewhere else... However there's no deeper meaning behind it...

As far as I remember the plane model is from Sketchfab. I edited the model a bit and added more detailed engines. The tentacle stuff is made with the Ivy generator. I had to render the blurred propellers separately and comp them in afterwards, since this semi transparent stuff doesn't render correctly in front of V3 clouds. Apart from that there's only some chromatic aberration.

Terrific! What else can I say. Hopefully Matt will chime in regarding the transparency-v3 cloud issue.
Actually, seeing this, Ivy gen is a great tool to make lightning shafts.

I like the image except the lighting tentacle part Hannes.
Don't know maybe it is only me. But they look not quite integrated to the rest to my eye.
If you rendered it in Terragen maybe a test to render it separate and try to comp it in a different way would be interesting.
But the rest of the image is very nice, no critic :)

Maybe have them glow more and add a thin cloud to catch that glow?

Thanks guys! I agree, the Ivy part may look a bit strange. And it was in fact the last thing I added to show something the airplanes try to escape from. I tried some renders with masking and glow, but it didn't really work. Maybe I should try something completely different.

Translate the object into a pointcloud...

Hmm, not sure why. Could you explain that a little more?

By the way, here is an earlier version with a more subtle luminosity on the tentacles and the not really working transparency of the propellers.

That's a cool version too.

If you could (somehow) translate it into a softish point cloud, it could be more transparent and soft as a strange cloudshaped lightning 'thing'. But it's just a far-fetched idea.

Ah, I see. Don't know, if I can do this, since the object has 1.5 GB...

It might be a better image without the ivy stuff.
The clouds and the blue lighting are really cool and good looking.
And maybe it would be enough to tell the viewer why the planes
are escaping.

Maybe you're right. Sometimes less is more...

The tentacles are cool, just make less of them.   The mass of tangles makes the perspective off a little, shoving the two transports too close together, imho. Great image tho!

I think you could render those tentacles separately and comp them in in Photoshop with a few masks. You'd get better blending and glow control. Maybe keep them in your beauty scene for GI purposes.
