Title: Derelict
Post by: WAS on October 04, 2020, 12:24:47 AM
Mainly just playing with lighting with v2 clouds here, but also liked the random terrain I did like it was "cratling" something, so I added another variant of my "visitor".

Just an hour long standard render, though I'm going to attempt a path trace tonight and see if it's like my other scene (using same basic cloud setup) where it was taking 30+ hours on a sphere... xD It seems whenever I do luminosity stuff or light sources other than the sun, PT time literally exponentially explodes.

Very effective. Beautiful light.

Great lighting and mood. I thought you had a different model "sphere" with ridges/ripples. That would show some interesting reflections.

Excellent light and dark mood!

Great light, atmosphere. Simplicity of the sphere works really well here. I'm curious to see how this will look with the path tracer. Nice work!

I do, but even with MPD 0.8 and AA 8 in PT it's full of polygon tears, and white hard specular artifacts on the messed up geometry at a distance. Really upsetting considering it's already at ridiculous render times, and still looks so bad. That render is still going at 47 hours. Doing bottom of the sphere and sand now but it looks like trash imo.

Is the sphere an imported model or a native displacement?
If you haven't already it may be worth trying the other option for comparison.

I did a sphere originally, using a planet in this one (for the energy glow thing). I think a imported sphere would likely have worse results unless I modeled it with the sinus. Which honestly I could easily just export a ortho height map and easily stamp a sphere in sculptris.

Oop. That render crashed the PC. :\ Came back and it was just at login screen. Got a resource exhaustion again (on 32gb with no objects besides a native) :\ Still not sure what this is. Man I used to do tons of renders on 8gb of RAM at this size with all sorts of crazy stuff like the nebulas. Thought a new PC would help a lot but honestly seems besides CPU speed, the AMD A10-5800k held up better with renders actually completely. Or it's newer TG versions.

Little update here.

Reason I want to get a super large res and detailed version is I want to mix a bunch of stuff together for a painting like effect. :P

Wow, the last one is superb! Especially with the postwork. Looks like an image for a sci fi movie poster.

Great scenery indeed. I love this. You should do this more often, Jordan.

Beautiful work, Jordan. Reminiscent of Arrival, though the shape is very different.

Thanks again everyone.

I like that movie, actually, and that's probably where the inspiration for the ominous ship just there, without any discernible reason came from.

It looks as if it had come through the clouds. It's the sort of imagery I'd like to see on a track like this...

Well that is just a lovely video. Really dig it. Good music too. Gives me ideas for how I'd want a shot to go. I've wanted to animate something for awhile and throw it at my server but I honestly don't know much about camera rigging.

As Kadri can verify I had trouble getting keying down initially in general haha
