My current on going research/learning project....
you all can contribute to this if you like....and I DO hope you all contribute
I will post more when I have more....
Wow, that's a pretty complex network ;). Those stones look pretty good, though - kind of like the kind you would expect to see on a rocky coastline.

yes....color choice was the hardest thing ;)...lol :D
I like your stones! 8)
I don't know if you are just experimenting or trying to get a particular result... IMHO they are too much closely-knit, however they could simulate some kind of basaltic rocks...

thanx....I am just experimenting and also trying to get as real stones as possible....and I know they are really close to each other and I wish I had more control over placing the stones...
two more.....and I guess I will also post a clip file....
the key for detail is "Power Fractal Shader V3 10" and "Power Fractal Shader V3 14"
Good job, dh. I like the stones' texture...colors are easier. Great displacements!

Power Fractal Shader V3 10 and V3 14???? What's this?
dh - here are some minor changes I've made and the TGC...for fun. Hope you don't mind if I experiment and see what more we can come up with.
Naming convention just adds a number to the object. v3.10 and 3.14 are the same sort of object, but different instances.

Nice work! I'll definitely keep my eye on this one. I need to post some of my rock clips as they could go well with this.
:-[ hoo I see...

please do post them....
this stuff is so amazing....
did little changes to redirect shader

this thing keeps getting better and better.... :D
No kidding. Good work. I'm planning to show you what I'm doing in about a half-hour or so. Have been working on better colors and want the same sort of displacements I see here, but I'm not quite there.
The shapes are nice, but that's some ugly displacement in the second one....

yes the displacements in the background ARE ugly...I am not sure what is causing that (my current guess is contrast)...I have fixed such ugliness to some extent by turning on the "smooth surface" in compute terrain and also by increasing the patch size...
I sort of like the "ugliness". It looks real.
maybe I should change the title of the topic to "making fake stones real"
;D
Add some nice looking surfacing on that and you're all set. Looks really great and I hope you are going to share it. ;)
Looks like real granite to me. Keep up the experiments. :)
It would be cool to translate this large cliffs outside of the rest of the other terrain. This is what I've seen moodflow and a few other do and I have yet to learn.
Out of curiosity since we are talking granet it would be nifty to see this texture overlayed with these nice stones.
It's a procedural granet made in Genetica.

Here is a green version as well to keep with the theme.
