Title: Do Not Dive
Post by: Seth on November 29, 2007, 05:34:10 PM
i don't have some math capacity and i don't understand anything about functions...   :-\
so, i keep playing with "normal" nodes and try to improve my understanding of TG2    :)
testing clouds, water and doing some basic surface terrain...
slight postwork on contrast and sharpness...

really nice work here.
have you tried sonshine's fake transparent water? I think it would look good with this image. A little extra colour in the rocks would improve things, but otherwise an excellent render.

yep ! my problem with fake transparence is that i want my water to be transparent only where it meets the rocks and not everywhere (where the water's deep i don't want to see the rock) and i don't know how to do it... perhaps with distance shader ? don't know ... and even, i don't even know how distance shader works '-_-

What you need is a light absorption distance, does translucency have absorption distance i wonder? If only the transparency could absorb the lighting then the deepest parts of the ground would fade beneath the water.

Old Terragen had absorption.    :(

you can use black & white image map as blending shader to make the water transparent where ever you like....

I used the same thing in my render "Empty Beach" to get green water exactly where I wanted....

of course it involves some work with photoshop or other photo editing program capable of making black and white brush strokes

see example below...

Nice rocks  ;D My only criticism would be to add a bit of green, you know, moss, sea weed etc. Apart from that, damn fine render. I like the clouds too
