Title: Playing with new models
Post by: cocateho26 on December 08, 2020, 09:19:00 AM
I've always used freebie models since TG is a hobby... buuuuut I finally broke down and bought some off of turbosquid. It was a large tree pack from archmodels, featuring something I'd never been able to find free... good "northern" conifers. Always frustrating when you love a good alpine scene haha. So here's a scene including a handful of these. I may go back and find some good groundcover plants after next paycheck for some added variety. Ground cover is a mish mash but mostly Walli's models and some of WAS's ferns.

I like the scenery. Especially the in-rolling ground fog/mist/cloud.
I am sitting here, looking at the picture and waiting for "It" to emerge from the fog... :o

This is really cool! Love that mist!

Yes, that's cool. Looks mysterious somehow. The models look really worthy.

This looks great. Ditto the fog

That large fern is definitely a nice model. Where is that from?

Daytime version so you can actually see the models... forgot to disable the "mist"... whoops lol. Also realized that they did actually come with translucency images so I'll have to give that a try as well.

WAS - not sure which fern you are referring to, your models are the only ferns in it. the one in the middle is a baby pine.

Both are looking great!  Agree with Ulco - mist is really a nice touch.

Added the translucency maps... Big difference!

Very nice to see some of your great work. Thanks! :)

I think it looked better without the transluecncy maps.

Also I meant fir. The blue spruce looking guy (colour wise), or Douglas looking fir.

daytime 2.0 ... So I think I've learned I prefer the look without the translucency maps. I tried upping the value to around 1.5 to compensate for the darker map but it's just not as aesthetic. The big blue spruce is the exception to me and maybe they would work fine in other scenes

WAS - the big fir is part of that same tree pack. Archmodels 117.

Going back to the morning version next, and then going to add in more trees and try to do a deepwoods type scene... never can quite get those right.

Alrighty... the project has branched and I'm now on v2. Changed up some of the pops into a denser forest.

Trying to pick a sun angle... I leaning towards the sun off to the side.

Gonna make a couple changes before a "final" image. I don't remember changing it, but the rock changed shape when I reloaded the program  ??? and might add something else to the center

That must be Win 10  :P

It looks great, also the subtle deer on the left (a bit too much to the left maybe).

Beautiful! The butterfly is a nice addition, although I think its orientation is a tad too vertical? This is good for the translucency, but it might look more natural, if the position would be just a little bit more horizontal.

Yeah I probably should have zoomed in on it during the preview, it wasn't so noticeable in the small test render but I do see it now. Oh well, unless I come back and make some more changes, which I suspect I will eventually if I find some good "characters" for the scene, I'm not particularly inclined to render this at 4k again soon though.

The Butterfly is a beautiful addition - I like its glow. :)

Just do a crop and paste it in in Photoshop or so, I do that often for some minor change.
