Title: Morning in the Canyon
Post by: RichTwo on December 09, 2020, 05:17:48 PM
Trying out a different terrain.  Canyons have always been one of my favorites.

Ohhh I like this one. Kind of has a bit of a wild west vibe to it for some reason, might be the color palette.

Looks nice. The haze adds to the depth. Maybe some rougher water displacement masked towards the center of the river would help vary it in the distance.  The canyon reminds me of my Procedural River Maps generator I made awhile back, which gives you a valley mask. I had actually forgotten about that.

Yeah a bit uniform and lacking in some drama. I tried some rough water with foam from some old clip. Only ho hum even at a distance. Ulco generously shared a small waterfall with foam on this which I think would look good from a distance. I took a close test render and was really long in the process. I my do a retake. But further off.

Very nice render! Color/veggie scheme of the ground is very good too. Only thing I'd do is decrease the wetness of the stones to a certain altitude, just above water level. As the water is not really rough, it's a bit too wet.
You could take out the displacement of the foam in the little waterfall, that would probably render faster. Or take out the transparency of that small area, but that needs additional masking and a reflective shader.
Rough water in center can be done by reducing the water mask again, and using as mask for extra displacement.

Apart from what has been already said a very nice render. I like the depth very much. Looking forward to your next iteration.

Very nice! It does seem to have an American western influence.
