Steve's scater model reminded me of the cold winters we once had, and I looked up some old photographs of the icy winter of 1963 when the 200k scating contest (Elfstedentocht) was a 'white hell'. We now have very mild winters, so I thought I'd make myself a good layer of snow ;)
The world opacity was now handy to eliminate some of the snow off the trees.
Beautiful!! I don't know, which one looks better to me. I like both versions. Happy new year, Ulco!
We have lots of snow here in the UK but not quite so much as in this magnificent scene.
Great, stepping on it will definitely leave a deep footprint.
That looks great, Ulco. Fabulous work!
...and as Hannes said: Happy new year!
Wow - going out BIG! Very nice - has that Alpine look. Happy New 2021!
Very nice render. I like the variety of color and texture of the snow ! Happy new year Ulco and all of you ! :)
Prefer the composition of the first one, but both are magnificent. Breathtaking point of view. Happy new year to you (and everyone) as well!
Thanks guys. Just woken up in 2021, and good to go again in a hopefully much better year. Happy '21 to you all as well!
A bit late but I liked both with a slight edge on like for the first...
Yeah, I later masked out the trees from the snow thicks.
Some more experiments, not perfect, some issues, but getting there.
Whoa, great!! The only thing, that looks a bit strange to me is the transition of the strata surface to the snow in the first image. Maybe you can break it up a little? Otherwise fantastic snow impressions!
Yes, I didn't like that either. Working on better transitions now, but as usual, its'a bit complicated :P
Oh yeah! That looks so beautiful and real! Great renders again, Ulco! :)
I agree with you and Hannes and cross my fingers for you that it won't be too complicated to change that a bit too smooth fading snow transition.
I did 2 other versions, one with an added intersected snow area, and one with an extra bulge of the thick snow, but I'm not very pleased with it yet. I do like the world opacity!
So I ditched working on this for now, and had to warm myself on some lava ;) see other thread.
Fantastic work! Renewed my inspiration.
Thanks you. That's what I post them for, to get users of Terragen into experimenting and producing renders!
So, here's another one. We finally have a week of good frost and snow (exceptional in the Netherlands nowadays), so plenty inspiration for me too. Not as hilly and rocky here, though.
Great stuff again, Ulco. :)
I liked the inersected version above a bit more.
The bottom render is absolutely beautiful!. Only annoying for me are some of the trees with too much snow (or hoarfrost?) on them. It's because they are mixed with trees allmost free from snow. Perhaps in some in graded groups it looks even better?
You're right. I use world opacity, but the contrast is a bit high. Thanks!
Another setup for thick snow. With glitches, but still in experimental stage.
Oh yeah! I like that render.
It has the look I wanted for a Klingon monastery some time ago. Great!
