Title: Missing list items on Windows?
Post by: jo on December 03, 2007, 04:21:34 AM
Hi,

I'm very interested to learn if you have trouble with list items disappearing on Windows. The most likely place for this to happen is in the list at the top left of the main window. What you might see is list items not drawing when you expand a list item, leaving blank spaces between other list items, something like that. The list items will usually redraw properly if you click on the blank areas.

Please only respond to the poll if you do have this problem.

Regards,

Jo

I voted once for nVidia, but I've seen it on all 3 machines I've used for editing. All use nVidia boards, or, in the case of the laptop, chip set.

I have 3 computers 2 have ATI boards and 1 has nVidia and I have seen it on both types of card. It seems to vary in severity though depending on how many items are in the list. The more items the more it happens.

I only see this after TG2 is up for awhile and / or I am using the memory heavily (lots of displacements, etc.).  Not sure this will help, but I'm willing to help with more details if you ask.

sometimes I end up running TG2 for 7-8 hrs without exiting. But then after that much of run time. TG2 just stops responding. I can right click in node network but no menu would show up. I would click on file and no menu would show up. I try to switch tabs but it wouldn't recognize the click and wouldn't switch. I try to exit and it wouldn't exit. Everything else in windows works perfectly. At that point I am forced to restart my computer. Hope this helps.

I can't say I've ever noticed such a bug. But then, I don't use the lists in the upper left very much anyway.

for me it only seems to happen after frequent use without restarting.
where frequent use is: either reloading tgd files and/or working on the same scene for a long time.

This particular problem has been fixed in the alpha releases since the last public release.

out of curiosity how many alphas do you guys do per release?

There is no standard on that. We release alphas to the private test group when it makes sense to do so based on the scope of changes since the last release and/or when we want something in particular tested. We move to a public release once it seems like there has been adequate testing of the current alpha, although we limit the public release timeline to be based around more major updates and features, so they are of course much less frequent than the alphas.
