Hello, I am considering buying terragen 2, but im a bit confused.
Pre-Purchase Terragen 2 "Deep": $199
Pre-Purchase Terragen 2 "Deep" with Animation: $299
so right, I thought that you could animate with every terragen 2? Or was I completely wrong?
Another thing is that it seems a bit steep with $100 for animation? I'm in school, I do some freelancing but not much at all, buying the deep version without animation is ok, but for me it would be too much for the animation; unless somebody could convince me it was worth it?
there have probably been other threads on this subject, but i couldn't find any....
Deep is the only product in this line with animation.
Wait until it's no longer pre-purchase (I wouldn't really wait, if I were you). The price will likely increase quite a lot. Check the market and you'll see most of these sorts of programs go at around $1000 or more for something on the professional level.
so because updates are included I would be saving a lot of money...?
alright, is there any schedule for when 2 is launched?
Updates up to (but not including) TG3 are included, as I understand it.
The schedule is sort of fuzzy, but there have been declarations by Planetside that this TG2 project will be at 1.0 by the end of this year. That's 4 weeks. But, I'm of the thinking (along with some others here) that it's okay if this date slips a little in order for Planetside to do it right. I
personally believe in the 3DRealms and id Software companies' philosophy of taking time to do something correctly.
Hope this helps.

Updates to TG3 are not included. TG2.x updates are, though. The $100 for animation really depends on how much you plan on animating. Right now, the built-in tools are pretty rough, but they will be refined over time.
A couple of other things to note:
- If you already own TG 0.9, you get $100 off
- If you are a student, you get a discount, but you can still use the software for commecial use (email them for a specific price)
Also, Planetside has promised a release in 2007 - they might not quite make it, but I'm confident that it will be darn close.
This is what I meant and didn't say (corrected). Sorry for the misinformation.

thank you very much (; you said there was a student discount, does that (like in my country) only mean college/uni or just in school too(?), caus I havent quiet made it to college yet, still got some years to go...
I wasn't in college when I got my student discount ;). Just zip them an email and see how they respond.

I believe all the questions have been answered quite well here, but let us know if you need any further information or help regarding registration of TG2. :)

On the site the pre-purchases only discuss "upgrades from TG 0.9" to the Deep Edition and the Animation module...
If you have the TG2 technology preview non-commercially, how does the pricing work? Are the prices the same as if you had 0.9 registered?
The free version is something anyone can download, so that doesn't count toward a discount toward a purchase...wouldn't make sense, if it did, right? Since anyone can download the free version...
The upgrade from .9 to TGTP is more readily understandable.
Or is this what you're asking?
Perhaps not, but the site still doesn't indicate whether you can simply purchase the full version at all, UNLESS you upgrade from 0.9
I know there is no date set for the final release of TG2, but the free version has been out for a while now, and I wondered if you could provide a rough estimate of how much it would cost without upgrading?
Right now, this says you can purchase commercial licenses for $199 or $299 - http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/tg2/prepurchase_tg2.shtml
You can currently buy the full TG2 version without a copy of TG 0.9. The prices listed on the Planetside site are for a new copy of TG2 - you get $100 off those listed prices if you own a license to TG 0.9.
What they said :D
I have a question. If I wanted to change version is there a way to do it?
@PG - Yes, there is a way to upgrade your version. But, you would need to ask Planetside how. My guess is it's as easy as paying the $100 extra and getting a different license.
I've already got animation but after seeing it I can tell I'll never use neither the animation nor the motion blur.
That's another story.
As far as not using the animation, it might be wise to wait before deciding that. After the product goes gold, Planetside will make the animation module into something much better...from what Planetside has posted here.
The Animation Module, although included (in an early form) in the Deep + Animation package, will not be completed at the same time as the TG2 "core". After TG2 is finalized, we will focus on finishing the Animation Module and bug fixes to the TG2 core.
I'm not sure what problem you had with motion blur, but if you elaborate a bit it might be something that can already be adjusted, or can be fixed in the future.

PG: I have to echo calico, hang on to your animation licence. It would be a shame if you had to pay full price to get it back again once it is finished. The pre purchase price has to be a bargain, what has it cost? Half a pair (One, totally useless) branded trainer, a couple of nights in the pub (One and a lunchtime if you are in central London), A starter in a poncy restaurant and so on....
