Would like to have some finer details on the planet's rings, but not sure how to do it. They're disc objects and glass shaders. For now it's all I've got.
Looks good.
There was an example scene i think in the free Terragen Presets Pack – Volume 1:

It was more complicated so far i remember.
I use mostly just a powerfractal with very fine detail in the default shader for opacity for any ring image you use. Renders very fast too.
You could use transparancy or clouds etc. too. Or combine all those. There are many ways.
Maybe there are some examples in the file sharing section.
Found these. There could be more:

There are many ring setups as it looks. But i made this very basic example for upload in the file sharing section too:

Additionally, here is cloud based rings using vortex warp: https://planetside.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,28837.new.html
v2 clouds allow better lighting control imo. PS quality of rings can go higher for smoother look at lower AA.
Nice, I like the salt flats!
Thanks all for the outpouring of support! I definitely will be looking into those. My approach is for a ringed planet is to simulate the real thing, with the planet shadow on the rings and ring shadows on the planet. Some setups cannot do this. I have one that uses populations of extremely large and numerous rock objects with camera projections. No idea how that works.
And Mick - it's supposed to be a frozen lake, but now I like the idea of salt flat better! ;)

Nice render, Rich!
What would you think about a version with a slightly dirtier (less bluish) salt lake and some very slight fog only above the lake? Just an idea... :)

Fine idea - that file I used for the "lake" is tricky to work with. The coloring comes from tiny fake stones. I may just flatten out a surface and add displacements instead.
