Title: TG2 to MAX or MAYA
Post by: dhavalmistry on December 03, 2007, 12:04:49 PM
I have searched the forums and found one thread

http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=1492.0

but the plugin they are talking about is no longer available....the link leads to a renderfarm service

any ideas on how to setup communication between TG2 and MAX or Maya

I am wondering the same thing for Maya. I have gotten chan files out of Maya and into TG2 but I am unsure how to establish camera matching

hansiMUC recommended maya setting of:
"Film Gate user:

Camera Aperture:  2.0 1.5
Film Aspect Ratio: 1.333

if you now export the camera with the mel script, and render PAL Images 720x576 Pixel Aspect 1.06666"

But I am setting up at 720 x 486 for DVD. any suggestions

By the way Mocon 3.5.5 is open source now. http://3dmation.com/

I think you mean this zip file http://rapidshare.com/files/74411704/terragen2_TO_3DS.zip (http://rapidshare.com/files/74411704/terragen2_TO_3DS.zip)

I have it saved on my HD. I have no idea if this is the right one you are talking about but I have uploaded it to my rapidshare account for you just in case. (I'm a right Magpie, never throw anything away  ;D )

**EDIT**

It only imports camera and sunlight....I thought it was something like xstream but only unofficial....

is there a way to import everything including the heightfield and all the displacements applied to to it  and the objects/population??

There is no "xstream equivalent" for TG2 at this point. All available 3rd party tools and plugins for other applications only work on camera and motion data for interchange. Terrain data can already be exported in LWO or TER format (the latter of which can then be converted to TIF with TerraConv and then loaded in many other apps). You could create a spherical render or skydome to get TG2's lighting into another app.

Note that I believe the 3DS Max -> TG2 plugin still exists but you must contact the author directly through his site to obtain it.
