Title: projecting heightfield from the side
Post by: Nala1977 on March 25, 2021, 06:11:17 AM
Hey guys i was searching this without much luck, i have a question, lets say for example i create a black and white image on photoshop or trough Gaea which export heightfield, usually we use this as a heightfield load node to displace the geometry upwards.

Is there a way to apply this map vertically? what i mean is if there is a way to displace and add detail locally trough maps in the lateral axis, more like lateral displacement, but done with image. Sort of what you do with Zbrush by painting an alpha wherever you want in the geometry surface.

You can set the sides for projection in the image map shader. Also a combination is possible through a transform shader and add/mix/merge colors. Then you could use vector displacement after XYZ or through transform shader set to world, or displacement after a compute terrain.
