hello again ;D
now i am writing tutorials and one of the tutorials i am going to write is on strata creation.
now i was wondering if my method of strata creation is the right way.
this is my method of creating strata.
first i apply a surface layer then i limit minimum slope angle so that the surface shader only sits on the high angle face of the terrain.
i then apply a default shader to the surface layer.
in the default shader i open a strata picture.
then under the colour function button i assign an image map shader with the same strata picture.
also if i want to add a more natural effect to the surface layer i open an organic picture under the default shader preferably some sort of rock texture, then under the colour function button i assign a imagemap shader with a strata image inside it.
now is this the right way ???
if not can someone please tell me how to do it the right way.
thanx jack ;D
Have you checked the tutorials in the Help section of this forum? A lot of very good instruction, including help with strata.
you dont need strata image maps to create stratas....there is a strata shader available in TG2
Create Shader -> Displacement Shader -> Strata and Outcrops shader V2
connect it before compute terrain in the node network and you have your stratas....
One thing that strata images can do that the built-in strata shader doesn't currently provide is unique color for each strata "layer". It is actually useful to use both in combination, so both are valid and useful approaches.

If you're not sure whether it's the right way, why are you writing a tutorial on it? o.O

As dhavalmistry says, Terragen 2 already has a strata and outcrops shader designed specifically for the purpose of creating the look of layered sedimentary rock on slopes. Here's a good example of its effects:
