Hi all,
I've pretty much been in "research mode" over the past 6 months and have learned alot. And I've been itching to put some of what I learned to practical use.
So I spent some time setting up a scene, and using some of the clip files I've been assembling and testing over the past few months.
This image was a blast to put together! There are still some things I need to work on, but its all about having fun in the end anyway...
Native Res: 800x600
Quality: 0.8
Atmos samples: 64
Cloud samples: 196 (trying to avoid grain)
Render time: 121hr 41mn, spread over 4 cores --->EDIT: 121hr 41mn combined, 30 hr per core.
The temple was modeled in Google Sketchup.
All procedural - no image maps.
121 hrs for 800 x 600.... yikes! Looks nice, though. I like the foreground rocks.
yea...the foreground rocks rocks.....;):D
Well that was 121 hours combined. Only 30+ hours total.
Yes, I spent some time dialing those rocks in. I call them the "Pacific Grove" rocks. They have that round cracky feel found there.
I've been working on the squared cracky rocks, but still not there yet - and not even sure how I'll pull those off.
Thanks for the compliments. 8)
are the displacements on the rocks done using image map like before???

No, no image maps. I try to stay away from those as much as possible, unless its absolutely mandatory.
wow...I want to see the node network for those rocks then....they are amazing!

Thanks! Those took a while to figure out. I remember I did a post a few months back showing a sample of rocks I wanted to create procedurally, and we all tried to emulate it, but never got this far. Here is the post: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=1939.0
Anyway, here is a snapshot of all the nodes. Though there are alot of nodes, its actually a straight forward setup.
ohh...clever...using the same incrementing displacement technique using functions....very very clever....thanx for the nodes...
nice mist.
Oh, yeah, moodflow. This is perfect. My only wish is that it was poster size. ;D
Great job! Nothing to complain about here :).
very very good job !!!
amazingly realistic !
bravo
Superb work. Too bad it's not bigger. ;)

Yea... I used to render everything atleast at 1600x1200, sometimes larger. Maybe one day!
Splendide ! :)

Dhaval,
No problem. I have family in town for the holidays, so it may be a few days before I get to do it. Or I could sneak it in, but we'll have to see. Just loaded up on brownies, quiche, french toast, fruit, etc. Bloated. Holiday dinner ya know... ;D
ye I know...its ok if you cannot do it during the holidays....I can wait!...thanx in advance...
Absolutely fantastic :o. It's even better when I saw you did not use any image maps.
Congrat's for the Image of the Week also.

Many thanks Sjefen! Definitely trying to stay away from image maps if at all possible.
