Title: baking/exporting texture maps from TG
Post by: terp on March 08, 2022, 11:55:39 AM
Hey all!

We're creating environments in Terragen to export to Houdini for water simulations.
We are exporting vector displacement maps, as there are overhangs (i.e. heightmaps won't work)
We'd like to get the color maps out to Houdini as well, to get accurate color in reflections, refraction, etc.

I can think of systems (multiple camera projections?) to get part of the way there.
Is there an easier way to accomplish this?  Something in the works?

I've done some reading in these forums, and see that the answer may be no...

...but I wanted to check back in with the gurus here.

Thanks!
Mike

It isn't most you can do really is a orthographic export. But you'll need to disable terrain for accuracy, which means no height limits, slope limits, etc. You could try it with displacement but for something so close I think lateral stuff will be scrunched, and things hidden below lateral lips, just not being picked up altogether meaning what it can see will stretch over the area.

Yeah...I hadn't seen any news re: this part of Terragen.  We'll try out some workarounds.
Thanks WAS.
