Getting back to some fall ideas I was thinking about last year but never got around to. This is an experiment where I used an image of some fall leaves in world-space with a lot of warping as a leaf texture for my forest. I think it turned out reasonably well, with a lot more color variation than is easily achievable with power fractals. There were a few spots where the edge of the image was visible that I had to clean up in post, so the technique still needs some work.

That's really nice. Love the colour mix. Pops right now.
Here's another, along with the picture I used for the texture. Pretty easy method for some decent results:
- Set the leaf texture to white.
- Plug the image map into a warp input with a power fractal warp (lots of warp)
- Transform to world space.
- Plug into the leaf color function.
Ta da, instant fall colors. It would probably look better if I used more than one tree ;)
Wow that's stunning. Makes me want to attempt this. You know, I don't think I really have besides showing other people how, come to think of it.
At a glance I thought they were both references.
Amazing!!! One question: what does the warping here? Is it just for some more variety?
Super work!

Yes, since the image is in world space, the warp is to try to break up the edges of the image map, and make the repetition less obvious. Also, since I have the image projected Plan Y, without warp the trees have vertical stripes of color, which looks funny. Still trying to figure out just the right amount of warp to break things up without muddying the colors.

Hmmm,.. this looks like some good terratuts material. 😁 REALLY good in fact. Very stunning/realistic result.
Looks good and interesting to use.
Okay, just one more here. The ground could still use some more detail, but I think I'm done for now.
Okay, just two more. Here's a zoomed shot. ;)
Wow, that last zoomed shot is amazing. I mean, they are all amazing, but the last one is outstanding! So beautiful.
Gorgeous colours......awesome distribution !
Have completely redone the mountains and removed the problematic terrace node. The plains were given a few rocky mounds to reduce monotony and slight adjustments in the lighting ! Thanks for the suggestions and feedback ! Have a great weekend all ! Paul
Looks much better in my opinion. Prairie looks a lot better.
Great update. I like those mounds too. Good job!
