Title: Early summer on the plains
Post by: pclavett on April 01, 2022, 09:27:57 PM
Hi guys.....this was started as an exercise in Gaea (from a tutorial) with 2 terrains imported into Terragen (and had lots of problems with the file not permitting to work with the terrains on re-opening.....discussed in the Support section). Still was able to manage to save the Terrain in a separate clip file and the rest with a generic terrain that was replaced on opening. The foreground are all tgo files from XFrog, former Sylva3D and others shared here. The sheer number of instances was kept at reasonable levels by populating only the first 1500M..... the distant plain being a procedural complex of PF for colour and displacement.....and arranged to look as closely to the tgo's..... the blend is fairly acceptable. The mountains are a huge 14 km terrain with 2000 M elevation with the snow developed in Gaea and simply applied in Terragen with an exported mask..... a bit of cheating here !!! 3 cloud levels aimed to look like warm weather clouds. Will try to see other variations in atmo with this one for mood ! Take care ! Paul

I honestly didn't even notice the distant vegetation was just procedural. I just wondering why the flows colouring wasn't present in foreground populations. That might look nice, I think I've done this before without any issues (from classic erosion).

This is a nice scene, the only thing that really bugs me is the lines fromt he strata shader. Erosion is kinda difficult to balance with strata though without most of it being hidden except the sharp edges which erosion seems to almost ignore for the most part. You may have better luck using the sinus function I recently shared for a smoother edge for erosion to effect.

Looks really good. You managed to make a good transition from pops to procedural. A few large stones would make it a bit livelier maybe, and often works to distract even more from such transitions.
I agree with Jordan that the strata lines distract. A bit of warp or more breakup might help.

Really great!!! A calm and peaceful scene. I agree about the strata. I'd just leave it out.

The strata was one node too much in Gaea ! Lesson learned !

Have completely redone the mountains in Gaea, lost the Terrace Node that created the visible line. Rock mounds added to the plains and some tweaking in the lighting ! Thanks for the suggestions and take care ! Paul

I Like the addition of the rocks.  This is beautiful.
