Title: Human models revisited
Post by: N-drju on April 19, 2022, 09:20:10 AM
Hey Guys,

Long time no see. It's not like I haven't used TG at all for the last year or so. I just had no time to visit the forums. ;)

Now that I'm back, I'm again trying to investigate into best ways to create and sculpt human characters for TG use. Yes, I know - we've been there multiple times... But could you just remind me what options do I have?

The biggest problem for me is diversity. Meshes / shapes and morphs are not too problematic, because one can get a good deal of differences even with the basic stuff. Clothing and skins is where the problem is.

In case of DAZ Studio, they are all just too expensive and mostly fantasy-themed or straight out pornhub-style.

In case of Manuel Bastien's plugin for Blender, clothing (and hair especially :-\) is just too time-consuming to make...

Any ideas and suggestions would be highly appreciated.

If you already have the meshes then you can use Mixer for shading (if that is what you mean by "skins"). Mixer is free and comes with a nice assortment of built-in materials. For clothing the best solution I've found is Marvelous Designer. Not free, but they've switched to a subscription model that lets you pay as you go. I think you can use Blender's cloth simulator to create clothing, too, but I've never tried it (google for tutorials).

And welcome back to the forum!

Cloth is getting better in Blender, it used to be kinda annoying to set up, but I think it's gotten a lot better.

I am very enthusiastic about (free) DAZ for simple to make poses from basic characters, and then indeed Marvelous Designer for superb clothes. The clothes from DAZ suck.

Boy do they really. I tried the trial and just didn't like anything I did. Lol Even in their demonstrations the clothes all lack depth. Just more geared towards game engines, I think.
