Title: Mission to Minerva - Lazy sunday afternoon
Post by: Hannes on November 29, 2022, 06:06:03 AM
My third entry for the Kitbash challenge. These models are so great, and there's a lot of them. It's so much fun to create different scenes.

But it shows me as well, that I desperately miss the normal map support! Terragen has all other shader features which can create realistic materials, but this last one is missing. And it adds so much to realism. If I take a look at the entries made with other apps that support normal maps, I can see the effect it has.

So hopefully this is on the high priority to do list!!! ;)

Awesome! Can't you just use the normal map as bump? Would it make such huge difference?

Thanks Ulco!! Yes, recently I started to do this. Before I tried converting normal maps to displacement maps with Crazy bump or whatever it's called. But it's only a compromise. And the normal maps don't give the same result like they do in other apps. It's lacking a lot of details, which is logical, since TG needs and reads b/w maps as bump maps.

Lovely assembly of models ! They actually look great, especially the relaxed, hands behind their head one ! The distant planets and moons are just perfect with that bluish haze ! Great job !

Thanks a lot!!! Using Mixamo online for characters is fantastic, and it's free!
Btw, I had to replace the frontpacks and the backpacks by separate static ones after the characters had their final pose, since they were in the original mesh and thus were posed (and distorted) as well. So were the helmets (including everything that's inside) for some of the poses.

I keep trying to make out what the seated astronaut is reading. Is that supposed to be the National Enquirer? (Inquiring minds want to know.... ;D )

First I thought I'd post the original texture for the title of this magazine, but it may be a bit inappropriate... 8)
So here is at least a crop render in original size. Hint: starts with an "H" and ends with "ler". ;)

...so lonely out there... ::)
