Title: The Bottom
Post by: sonshine777 on January 10, 2008, 01:41:05 AM
Just in case anyone wanted to know what was at the bottom of the hill on the "Last Run" image here you go.

There still are some GI issues in the trees, mid image not sure whats causing it.
I think in spite of that that this one came out quite well. It took 65 hours to render.
Here are the render settings. Any higher and the program would crash.
Detail: .5
Anti-aliasing: 5
GI detail: 2
GI quality: 1

Enviro-light (strength on surfaces): 2.5
Camera (Light Exposure): 1.5

Most all other detail and lighting settings are the default.

Like many of my other renders it will be waiting for the final release of TG2 before revisiting it.

Enjoy! Comments as always welcome

Wow, very nice atmosphere and snow.  Sled is awesome.  Trees look pretty good, too.  Good, good job.

Love everything, but wonder if those trees are billboards.

Thanks.

Nope they are the Douglas Fir trees that are in the free X-frog pack. The snow reflecting (GI) back onto the trees tends to flatten out their appearance. At least it seem to be th case.

Like the soft shadows, anyway.  And it really looks cold.

Something is odd that the trees look flat.  I'm not sure why, but it might be a lighting issue.

Awesome work in the snow, sled look's great (a bit shiny but it's probably just from being new,A few run's from the top of the hill should remedy that. ;)

It definitely seems to be how TG2 is interpreting the suns reflection of the snow back onto the trees. This is actually pretty accurate in terms of how GI works, by taking all of the light sources both active and reflective the scene will look more natural. The only area I really have a problem with is the third or fourth tree from the right side of the image, which has a three toned band running through it horizontally. I can't figure out shadow or combination of shadows would be causing it. I am starting to think that keeping the GI low 2 and 1 respectively and raising the Environmental light to 2 or above may be the cause. But I will have to wait until the final release because my puny computers can't handle a higher GI.

Hopefully rendering will be much better on the final and I can dust off all of the .tgd's that are waiting for higher quality settings.   :)

I have started to make a second model that will overlay onto the sled and put some snow and grime on it. I am having a bit of trouble making it look random enough though.
