Title: the power of GI
Post by: child@play on January 11, 2008, 07:16:01 PM
no sun used in this image, the secondary planet is only lit by the primary. don't know what went wrong in those little black areas, can't seems to get rid of them ( not related to displacement or gi settings). settings: detail 0.75, aa 3, gi 3/3 time: amazing 10 minutes

This is the exact same method I was using for the GI scene illumination, but only inverted.  I love it.

glad you like it. now that i compared the uploaded pic with my bmp i must say the little planet suffered quite a bit from compression. i'll put that one up as a zip later, together with that windwheel from the other thread.

btw, the 'sun' is only 1 surface layer and 1 powerfractal  ;D

Well, this dark spots are possible on the sun. They are strong magnetic fields as far as I know.  ;D

Nice one.
I've noticed these black spots very often, almost every time
when a power fractal is used for coloring no matter if one
color is unchecked or not.Guess that's just how a pf works.

hehehe, thx man, that did the trick, checked the fractal, it had some major black areas in it. changed offset and contrast slightly, now it's all good.

i'll post a render @ 1 quality and 6/6 GI as soon as it's done
