Was testing out the Intersect Underlying options a bit more, and got a bit carried away. Ended up with another 'sea of clouds' ;)
GI 2,2
AA 4
2 cloud layers
3 surface layers
Graded the 32-bit EXR in Photoshop CS3, exposure only (I have no qualms about treating a render like a negative).
That's nice.
The combination of the different cloud densities gives a realism that is missing in most similar scenes.
I will need to remember that ;) ;D
Excellent work.
Beautiful clouds and lighting!
Wonderfully done. I agree with the lighting and the clouds you've nailed this one.
Like the lighting and the color.
The scales of the cloud billows are perfect. The lighting and rocks look very real as well.
very nicely done!
cool, very fotorealistic
Very, very pretty, very realistic. Nice work.
/agree with Mr. Lamppost
Thats a photograph isn't it? ;-)
love it, great clouds
Thanks for the kind comments everyone.
I decided to re-render with a different sun heading. Also added some lens blur and a bit of grain this time (why the hell not...) :)

Shit <with expression> ;D Now, I really love the lighting.
some of the best clouds and lighting I've seen. I say image of the week.
very nice light !
Fantastic lighting and clouds!
One of the best images I ever seen realized on TG2. Congrats. Image of the week, most definitely.
Yes, this is an incredible image. The lighting, surfacing, colors, nearly perfect!
what to add...it's all been said :) great work
I like it very much. It reminds me of an old one I did ;D
I don't like the DOF though. It makes it look miniature.
/agree with everything
Very very good.
Definitely Image Of The Week material, the new version really shows off those clouds. :)
Tiny gripe: Can we have a version minus the post work? I have never been a fan of this kind of thing. ::) If I can see film grain you used the wrong film and soft focus / glow filters just make me think of cheesy wedding pictures I will be expected to pay over the odds for. The second word is OFF!! Gripe over. ;D ;D ;D
As it happens, I'm rendering a new version which should be done some time tomorrow. I'll upload without post work. ;)
Publish with post work all you want Mr B. it's your image ;D
But why hide your excellent work behind cheap effects that any talent less Dumbo with a copy of PhotoShop can do?
The first one was good, the second one was better; what is the new one going to be like????
I agree with previous posts, I say Image of the week.

Yeah definitely, this is amazing work!
Thanks for the suggestions, and again for the comments.
Last version, with some work on the surface layers (can't wait to animate this once GI's stable :) )

Wonderful stuff, this is actually my favorite version.
Beautiful.
The best yet :)
An animation would be nice but I don't want to think about the render time.

You know, I'm so pleased with this one that I'd probably buy a cheap little box or laptop to leave it rendering in the corner for a month ;)
Stunning Jim. Really beautiful work. We've already got an Image of the Week to put up this week, but this is perfect for next week if you'd like to be featured. PM me if you're interested. :)

Simply stunning I'd say! Fantastic job Jim! 8)
Well I didn't like the first version too much. I thought the second was a great improvement. Now most of the postwork has gone, this is now without a doubt simply beautiful. ;D
lovely image! Could you reveal us a little more about your cloud setup? is it 3 clould layers on the same height level to get the feel of the smooth and the hard parts? any chance for sharing the setup? just want to say great work again!

Neod, unfortunately, I can't share the setup in this instance as I need to use it for potential work. Really sorry about that, but my hands are tied and I need to pay the bills. Hope you understand. :-\
It's only 2 altocumulous cloud layers taken down low, though, and in fact a very simple setup. I don't think I touched the atmosphere, and bear in mind it's best to render EXR and tweak the gamma and exposure in something like Photoshop CSx, IMHO. Treat it like an actual RAW photo.
A masterpiece. Impressive!
