After looking at nvseal's amazing renders with windwheel...I thought I should give it a try too....
here is a WIP result!
The ground is too black, but I like the colors in the sky.
yea I disabled the GI
I'm with OB.
Why disable GI?
because I dont have anything in the foreground yet!...its plain smooth floor!
hehehe now we know why :D
Aaaah. ;D
Thats an area for the title "The Amazing Windwheel" Or "Windmill (American spelling) Sunset"
here is a little progress report....if anybody is curious....:D
looks real good Oo
Don't forget that GI also affects clouds. This is particularly important for sunsets where the cloud base is lit by scattered light. Without GI you just get silhouettes with coloured edges. You can adjust the strength separately for the atmosphere and terrain so you can still keep the foreground dark.
Thanks for the tip bigben!
Aaaah. ;D
Let us see something in the foreground, so we feel like we're there. Soft lighting...or something... Right?

An update....
I have tried my best to clear the clouds near the sun...but I just cant do it....any ideas how I could achieve this??.....
any ways...I still havent done anything to the foreground so its still dark!
image mask? It'll work, but it might be tricky to not end up with half a cloud, i've not tried image masking clouds before

for now I am using the transform shader....see if I can find a gap between clouds....
right now I am very happy how the clouds are lit around the edges....
a cropped render
what do you think??...
too dark??
depends on the ground :D
with high GI and good terrain... could be good....
I agree with Seth. A lightly seen background with too much contrast (to match your windmill horizon) could be fantastic.
here is the full render without any postwork!
I was waiting on the clouds and everything to be setup first before I work on my foreground...
and now that the clouds and everything is all setup....I can finally work on the foreground and get some more light in the scene!
Oh my God. This is very nice. I actually think I don't need to see what's in the foreground. Good work!
thank you calico....can you tell me if you can see the base of the windmill??...
Not really. It's easy for me to imagine it.
But, I think it's perfect.
very very good !!! will you do a bigger render ?

sure seth!...why not! :)
i hope so, i really would like to see it bigger... and i think it worthes it !
I agree with calico the image as it is is very nice. I have always liked silhouette images anyway. The addition of the powerlines and midsized trees in the middle ground add allot of depth to the image even though they too are silhouetted.
a bigger (1000 x 1429) render is under progress...it should be done within 24 hrs with 200 atmo samples and 0.65 quality!....
cooool
ok people....here is the larger and final Version.....
I hope you all can see the foreground....

enjoy!
very good job dude !!!
thanx seth!....can you tell me about the foreground please??...
i must admit i guess you put rocks... but i can only see dark grey spot... (very very dark)...
Me too. Same as Seth. Just crop about half of that out. The wonder of the picture is where my eyes are drawn - to the sky and windmill.

there is also a wooden fence and some scattered grass.....if you have photo editing software then you can adjust the brightness and you will see...
Looks just fine on a good monitor, Foreground detail is there and matches the exposure pretty well
Very nice :)
