Comments and critiques appreciated :).
Wow, this is extremely realistic!! The lower part of the mountains in the background is incredible. Great work!
Very good render. Nice lighting. A lot of great work in this. One of your tops so far.
good job O_B ! good job...
This is just awesome. No other way to describe it. Makes me want to go hiking there.
Any chance of a blow-by-blow of how you did it from start to finish (including where you bought/obtained the models?)

Thanks for the comments so far :). Mr. Lamppost noted over at Ashundar that it seems the upper left part of the ruins is levitating a little, so I'll try to rerender that part and plug in the crop render in postpro. All of the models that I used were either from the free Xfrog pack or downloaded from www.ashundar.com. The scene itself isn't complex. The terrain was made by mixing a masked alpine shader and a power fractal. There were two layers for snow, a pair of power fractals for textures, a layer of fake stones, and then lots and lots and lots of models masked by a warpy power fractal.

Don't you just hate it when someone notices something like that after you have waited hours for the thing to render ;) ;D
I did also say it was an excellent scene :)
Wonderful! I especially like the distribution of veg.

Nice, what a awesome POV, great depth, vegetation look very real. Great work.
nice work. Only criticism from me is that the foreground grass/plants looks fake, and some of the trees in the middle of the image don't quite look right, they seem to 'pop' out of the shadow a bit too much. Otherwise, great work like the others have said, esp. the mountain
Nicely done O_B, I agree that the realism on this one is quite high. I also like you addition of the dead trees scattered here and there. I would say that the ruins seem to be floating above the ground on the far side though, but that might just be me.
oh I love it OB
Oh my gosh, man, it's great! The mountains in the background look absolutely like a photo. Congrats!
Thanks again for the comments - I'll hopefully have a new version up soon with the ruins fixed.
mrwho - I agree somewhat with your comment about the background trees, but I'm curious as to why the foreground vegetation doesn't suit your fancy. I ask only because I've tried everything I know how to do to get it looking realistic, so I would like to hear where I could improve it.
Very nice render you have there, I see the floating logs model also looks great in the meadow. I think what mrwho is referring to is the patterning that the wheat type grass has. It seems almost too evenly spaced. You may want to try two populations in the same place but at different densities and different seeds, just a thought. This a great piece though, well worth pursuing to perfection. :)
For me the upper half is the best and the foreground looks pretty good to with the exception of the trees as suggested already. I don't think you could make them look any better than you have with the model you are using. The problem with them as far as I see it is this, the leaves look too large a scale for the size of the trees. I think a better quality tree in the foreground would make a world of difference. Still appreciate all the work and thought you put into this scene. Very well done.
Here's the one with the fixed ruins. I agree about the model quality, josh, and thanks for the insight on the foreground grass sonshine.

Geez, this is good. Yaowzir. ;D
yup, I think sonshine got it right ;D It just looked off to me, and I think his suggestion would help a lot.
Fantastic work O_B! Really nice work with all the models and distribution, very good work on that.
Logically the renderquality isn't that good but for the rest the image is top notch and I don't know anything where I could put my finger on.
What where the rendersettings and time by the way?
The background mountain is also one of my favorite features of this image.

This is a really great render! I know how much work can go into one of these.
I like how the foreground grass is layed out, but I think it could use slightly better distribution variation.
Then there is the grain and sharper lighting - but we know this would have taken ages to render.
I also like those background mountains. Very nice setup indeed.
Wow, that is stunning and beautiful, should get pic of the week imo, im just blown away with the realism of TG2 so far.
Thanks for all of the additional comments :). After hearing some these comments and those from other people, and after several computer crashes while rendering, here is the *final* final version ;).
Very nice! :) I think you have done an awesome job of picking and incorporating just the right changes. I to would say it is finished! :)
A beaut, O_B.
niiice !
Looks great O_B.
Really nice final.Well done.
I think you've adequately addressed all feedback. This and the castle scene recently posted are certainly two of my favorite TG2 renders.

Thanks guys - glad you like it :).
You've put much effort into this image to address all the feedback, great to see that.
This final image has improved very much in comparison to previous versions. Especially like the reduced amount of grain and thus increased detail.
Awesome work!
Looks like you have put a lot of work in this one as Tangled-Universe said.
I like it a lot. Everything fits very well. The vegetation has good variations and I love your background mountains.
