Title: export surface map textures ??
Post by: phil_DDIStudios on March 12, 2008, 07:34:24 PM
Hi Folks,
Is it possible in either Terragens (0.9 or 2) to export the highly realistic surface textures as .TGA I want to create a scene and export the whole thing so I can drop it into Bryce, but have the texture stil intact?
Any thoughts? I know I can export the heightfield as an object and import, thats fine but I want the texture too,
Thanks

Texture exporting is limited to manual methods like top-down square renders of an area (or the whole terrain). You have to make lighting and atmosphere adjustments to get neutral shading (not "baked" shadows), etc. Essentially it is not a particularly simple or easily effective process. TG2 is best at rendering, not generating textures for other applications to render.

Yes, absolutely. Object import and rendering is one of the most significant new features of TG2. There is a great deal of discussion on how to utilize the object features in TG2 elsewhere on the forum.

.3ds format is not supported, but TG2 can import .OBJ files. It also attempts to import material definitions and textures, but material import can be a little fussy about the formatting.

Basic .LWO support is provided too, but .OBJ is the preferred format.
