For Terragen 0.9 this is the best thing available:

Check this out:

Ground Wiz is a plugin for 3ds max for creating terragen-like surfaces, but the best thing is, you can directly import Terragen (0,9)-scenes into 3ds max (you have to import the terrain separately) including texture (not perfectly the same but very similar), camera and sun.
There is a free version (Ground wiz lite), which has little restrictions, but you can use it without rendersizelimits or timelimits.

Hope this helps

Groundwiz is good, However, you will not be able to export .OBJ or .3DS with from Max and keep Terragens/Groundwiz's incredibly accurate terrain shader/texture map. If you simply want  to be able to populate a Terragen world with trees etc then consider TG2 with its object import???  ;)
