Title: Of The Biting Cold
Post by: dandelO on May 28, 2008, 07:57:36 PM
An image I created using my 3d snowfall technique, posted here some time ago in the file sharing area... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=3438.0

Thanks for looking!

That works well.  I had missed the original post of the method, I'll need to give it a details look although from the quick look I have given, your height field could probably be replaced with functions.

Wow.  I like everything pretty much, but the snowfall is a bit too generically dense without the necessary (and probably difficult) randomization.

Thankee-Sai's!

Mr. L: Probably, I've seen a post in here I think a while back where the entire terrain has been made into an infinite, repeating valley of peaks and troughs, but I'm yet to get my head around any of the fuction nodes. I'm no mathematician, just a humble-bum. ;)

Inkydigit: Sonshine has a snowman model uploaded, it's a bit cold just now though for rolling it about out there today!  ;D

Calico: More than one snowflake population, set on different distribution terrains/seed/scale would help. I also think that opposing X-Z noise-stretches in blending power fractals for each population would make a nice swirly wind effect, if composed correctly.

Food for thought...

Cheers! :)

Here's the nodes layout. It's very basic...
