Title: Red Floating Rock (WIP)
Post by: ramsesoriginal on June 12, 2008, 09:27:04 PM
Hi there.
I am pretty new to Terragen (user since yesterday :D ), and after i read through many forum postings (here and also on other sites), tutorials etc. i started playing around with tg2. My problem is that since i currently can only use a Pentium M 1,6Ghz single core with 512 Mbyte ram, my rendering times are horrible. For the linked image they i needed something like 2 hours, even though it's a fairly easy image.
It shurely looks funny, but it's just the result of some experimenting with various settings. Maybe i'll write some sort of background sci-fi or fantasy story to it, for now, take it as-it-is.
Any comments/critics? What could i improve? What could i do diffrent? Ideas for other "goals" to achieve, as a starter? Or tips on how to improve my skills?

That's fun and not a bad start.  The area I would work on first is texturing on the grass.    Or move on and try something else, learn a little each time.  You can often work at low quality while composing the elements of an image, then make crop renders to test the detail and finally leave the full render running overnight or while you are doing something else.
