Title: Pierced
Post by: dandelO on June 19, 2008, 07:47:49 PM
Rendered in unregistered build. The only half decent thing I've managed to render with this hobbled pc recently.
Settled on GI 'strength on surfaces' at 30 to brighten up this sunset's foreground, I find the GI needs real boosting when only one sun is used near the horizon.
I don't like the stones.

Thankee-Sai!

Love the terrain.  Great work!  This is realistic, so I disagree with your dislike of the fake stones.   ;D

...great clouds and atmosphere.  Love the sun, too!

QuoteHaha, thankya big big.

:)

As I said somewhere else that I've posted this, I wasn't expecting such positive responses to this one, thanks all!
I'm not to pleased with the ground at all, I feel it's a bit noisy and the stones are lacking in definition due to their small size, I think I'll re-render it with better rocks, should be pretty quick as this rendered in 1hr 15mins, quite quick for my computer and Terragen 2...

Actually, nah, can't be bothered, I've other things to render for now.

You can't fool Mother Nature, but you could have fooled me into thinking this was Mother Nature.  How can you get better than that?

Check the real world...it's full of fractals, even in the clouds.

If you  increase the values of the envirolight in the lighting tab, you can get a much lighter image without having to set the GI surface strength to insane values...

Huh? I don't follow you, Mohawk. GI 'strength on surfaces' is in the enviro-light settings. My final GI settings(in the render node) were only set to 2/2.
I'm nowhere near brave enough to go higher than relative detail '3', and I've only used it that high once(http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=4016.msg42105#msg42105), I think. Samples will vary from render to render but, in general, level 2 relative detail is more than ample for me, I actually use RD level 1 for most scenes and just up the samples as required.
If I have a water or a dusky scene though, then I need to use higher.

Hehe, sorry, I got confused with GI surface details in the render tab, sorry.

The ground may not be quite what you were intending for this scene but it does look realistic.  Where have I seen that gravel pit before?

Mohawk:  :D I thought so!

Mr. L: It looks pretty much like another render I done a few months ago... But not as good :(.
It's a completely different .tgd though... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=2991.0
That's probably where you think you've maybe seen it before.
