Title: Terragen 2 Terminology
Post by: csoro on July 09, 2008, 01:38:24 PM
Hey, sorry if I'm in the wrong section or anything but I was wondering if someone could point me to a place that has definitions for Terragen 2's different functions.  I'm not looking for tutorials, I know how to move sliders, but I just want to know what the different things are like what an "octave perlin warp is" and what "boolean" does.  Like a Terragen 2 dictionary.  Does such a thing exist?

This might help me with a few things but I'm looking more for terminology for the different functions within say...what "light propagation" means or what "fake internal scattering" means when rendering clouds.  That kind of stuff.  If I really wanted to I could play with the sliders and see what they do but my computer takes a significant amount of time to render the preview so if I could just know and understand all that stuff without having spend unnecessary amounts of time figuring it out, that'd be wonderful.

I see what you mean, I also thought the node-reference was what you were looking for.

Unfortunately the kind of information you're looking for is not officially released yet. I mean, Planetside hasn't created a manual or so which explains all the settings from clouds, powerfractals to fake stones etc. etc.

So the only option until such a manual is being released is to use the search here on the forum. If you can't find something, which I can't imagine, you can always ask here!
Lots of helpful people here!

Martin

A manual...haha for Terragen 2, that's probably the only thing Planetside hasn't thought of yet.

Alright, I'll have a look around.  Thanks for the help.

pretty sure you can find the "fake internal scattering" and light propagation" explaination on the search tab of the forum ;)
and i even think Oshyan or Matt said something about the light propagation...
as for boolean and other thing , you can even give a try to wiki(shit)pedia ;D

for a lot of the atmosphere ones hasn't someone gone through rendering different settings to show what differences it does to the atmosphere?

*edit*
here we go for atmosphere stuff, it was in the user tutorials area:
http://www.motionmagnetic.com/a_terragen2/atmosphere_examples/atmosphere_examples.html

great help when messing with clouds and atmosphere settings.

A full node reference will be available with the final release. This will include basic explanations of settings like those you describe.
