I've been playing around with the mini cooper model created by Mandrake over at Ashundar. There is still a lot of work to be done to this image to make it look right, but here is a mid-size test image to start with. A bit of extra photoshopping to give it a very soft feel. Trees are Lightnings great silver birch model.
*Edit* Final version here:

oooh !
very nice :)
you should get rid of the reflectivity on the tyre ^^
COOL!!! This is what we're talkin' about!
[edit - Seth's right.]
Yep. The tire is one of the many things that still need work. ;D
Wow, this is looking really good. Can't wait for the final.
BRILLIANT I knew it could be done !!!!! ;D :D
I saw an earlier post of yours and I guessed you were going in this direction. I know we're told time and again that we should be comping in models rendered in external packages but I don't think this image could have been achieved without rendering in Terragen, The reflection map alone would have to be massive! I would look more at the reflection myself, its a little too much in places and I agree with the others about the tyres.
Really looking forward to the finished image, one for the IOTW I strongly suspect :)

WOW - now THAT'S nice!
Agree with other on too much reflectivity, but impressive nonetheless!
Frank
Well after seeing this one I'm going to have to download that Mini
Cooper. I like it impressive.
oh wow this is sweet as ae :o
i love the reflection a little to much to be honest and yeah about the tyre thingi
you should add some blur effects in photoshop to make it look like the car is moving jst my thoughts though ;D
p.s you like those trees don't you!
sweet indeed!!...though a tad too shiny in places!
Very nice, indeed! However, is that the front-passanger tire/wheel I see through the grill? :P
Here is an updated version. Reduced the overall reflectivity, fixed the tires, textured the highway, and just overall tried to make it more realistic.
:o :o :o
much better
yes much better already ^^
man that is realistic! :o
impressive stuff!
That is amazing and so realistic. I would like the front of the car to be a smidge lighter but that is just me.
Agreed... looks fantastic none the less :o 8)
Here is my final version of this project. Only a few minor changes from the last version. Rendered much larger (1920 x 1200), higher quality settings, and reworked the depth of field a little bit. I'm quite pleased with how everything has turned out, from the nice dark shadows under the front bumper to the super bright overexposed sky, it is very impressive that all of this can be rendered within TG2 without having to resort to trying to render in another application and then re composite everything. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions throughout.
Thanks again to Mandrake for creating and sharing the model of the Mini Cooper. Thanks as always to lightning for the trees.

I think if this had some movement blur, Mini Cooper might use this for advertising. For real.
I wouldn't give it away, though. ;D
Oo
impressive result
Very realistic work,Bravo
Wow, this is so cool...fantastic work! I like the DOF a lot also. Minor thing is that I personally would have zoomed out a tiny little bit. But hey, what are we (I) talking about ;)
Awesome work! ;D
Martin
I have been watching this develop and must congratulate you on the final result.
Fantastic as it is it does show up the limitations of faking DOF (Hint, hint PS), Even controlling the application of the DOF effect using a depth mask there is no way to properly apply the DOF to the reflections.
