Title: Normal Map
Post by: darthvader on August 12, 2008, 05:27:26 PM
I recently downloaded what I thought was a Mars heightmap but it turned out to be a normal map instead. Is tg2 able to use normal maps to create terrains and if not is there any way to converte the normal map to a heightmap?

TG2 cannot directly use normal maps, although sometimes the term "normal map" refers to another file/image type which TG2 may actually work with, for example "displacement map". Here's a workflow for converting normal map to displacement map if you need to:

I downloaded the tiff from the link below a while ago and used it as a heightmap in T0.9...

...it seemed to work quite well.  (Here's my results - http://digitaldynamics.blogspot.com/2007/09/life-on-mars.html (http://digitaldynamics.blogspot.com/2007/09/life-on-mars.html))
