Title: Mountain view
Post by: Hannes on August 27, 2008, 07:39:36 AM
Here's another one with lots of (Lightning's) trees. Nine single images as usual, almost no postwork. I hope I can afford a license as soon as possible to create more populations!!

good lighting but there is something unrealistic with the clouds...
good population and nice rock surface too

Wow.  Great point of view.  The trees in the foreground look unreal, though placed well.  I think it's something to do with the translucency, since I've seen this before.

Completely agree with Franck (Seth) so far...nice populations, lighting and rocks. The displacements are very nice.
I also hope you'll be able to get your hands on a license soon, because it seems you're getting the grasp of TG2 very quickly :)

I think the trees look just fine. What do you mean? (maybe it is a difference between our monitors?)

Great sense of detail!  It looks to me like "Invert profile" might be checked in the clouds.  If that's the case, I would try disabling it.  I agree with Martin that the trees look quite good overall.

Great scene, only thing bothering me are the clouds. I think they can be improved as others have stated.

Thanks a lot for your comments.
I agree with Calico about the foreground trees, but I think it's not the translucency setting. They look much better when rendered in a 1.0 detail render setting. I tried it but it took ages to render, so I rendered them in a lower setting.

I have to say that I'm not very happy with the clouds either but "invert profile" is unchecked. The first try was without clouds, but it looked a bit empty.

Hannes, what is your translucency setting for these trees?

I wish I could have seen the 1.0 detail render.

It's 0.4. Unfortunately I aborted the render.

That is good on translucency for leaves, from my experience.

Maybe the next version will give us enough fixes so you can render it with higher settings next time.

Hannes, I'm a pretty much beginner with TG2.. where did you find such nice trees? Did you texture and place them manually?

thanks, bye

Very nice image,

it sets an example of tg2 images in a sense because many people use waaaay too much atmospheric blue, you use very little and it looks more realistic.

Thanks again.
@ j petrucci: the trees are Lightning's olive trees (olea europaea) here in the file sharing section. I used two populations of them, one with slightly more browner colour.

@ Xpleet: I didn't reduce the athmospheric blue, but i always like to increase the redsky decay value.
