testing clouds and stones...

Clouds, terrain, atmo and surface work are superb; and, I like that Agave plant!
The surfaces and the stone work looks like a photo. Congrats, superb render.
Very realistic. Great image!
Very nice work with the stones. The clouds don't look quite right - they're too sharp at the top. The texturing around the stones is very interesting... in some ways, it seems to fit right in; in others, it doesn't quite fit. Perhaps it's because I feel that the texture looks mossy and should therefore be growing on some of the stones. I'm not really a fan of the plant: it looks out of place here and the model itself looks quite stiff. I've seen other people use this plant in the past, and I've never really been a huge fan of it.
That said, I really like the image overall; I'm just giving you critiques to help you make it look even better :).
I totally agree with you o_b ! I really don't like the result of this render, mostly because of the plastic look of the plant ! Maybe i will post the original render without pw to show the textures and the clouds from stock render :)
very convincing stone work and water...agree about the aloe? plant...maybe another one would fit better...all in all though, I give this 9.5/10
First of all, this is great,
I wish I could do something even similar.
The ground is among the most photorealistic things I have seen in TG.
I like the clouds too, but they have a slightly painted look in my opinion. Maybe this is a case for Buzzzz´s photoshop-technique.
Last but not least this looks a lot like norway or iceland to me, so I would replace the plant by a dwarf birch or one of those round stonelike pillowy wosnames.
To say it again, the ground is great!!
Best Regards,
Jan
i send the original without postwork...
damn, i look at it before writing this post... i really don't like it (except the fake stones)... :-[
anyway... gonna work more on the next one...
I like everything except maybe the plant. Nice clouds, great lighting, good textures, nice populations of stones. Good work.
I see some soft lighting in there. Looks fantastic!
As others have said the texturing and lighting are very realistic and well done. The plant is only mediocre, but I understand the desire to add an element of focus. Maybe a cactus or something of higher quality? Hard to say. I do hope you continue with this scene though as it has a lot of potential.

i worked on it with a cactus before the ugly plant ^^
maybe i'll render it again with some modification... but that's another 100 hours to wait ^^
and i'm rendering something else right now...
but you're right, this one has potential...
The stones look great, but I agree the ugly plant has to go... :( ;)
100 hours? :o
I like the picture so far... stones are really extraordinary. I'm looking forward to see what plant you're going to use. How was working with the clouds seth? I heard that it is quite difficult to get them look realistic in TG2?! :-\
my computer is just an old machine so yeah 100 hours...
as for the clouds... well i am not the specialist in here but as far as i understand, i prefer using the perlin billow to have this bubbling look... i usually use big scale clouds with a smallest scale between 10 to 50 and a lead-in scale from 5000 to 25000...
i must admit i am usually lucky and i tweak a lot the parameters of the cloud layer...
i think the most important thing to achieve something close to reality in all aspect is the light and the atmo (one can't go without the other)... this one has haze 4 and bluesky 2, but i love to use 1 and 1...
ooookay here is the tgc of the fake stones... try to play with them before using them ;)
Thank you so much for your stones! :D
It's fucking amazing!!!!!! :o
Thank for the stones, I´m gonna learn a lot I think!
merci BEAUCOUP!!!
my pleasure ^^
just for fun
Seth, I think it's great just like that. No plant required!

GREAT! :D

Superb image, very realistic. I think I prefer the second one, with out the post work. The plant certainly seems to look better in that one, and the lighting is a wee bit more realistic, though I suppose it all depends on what look you were going for. Don't get me wrong, I think the 1st one you posted was superb, incredibly realistic, its just that hteres something about the lighting in the 2nd one....

STONES? STONES!? You've got some real stones to give us stones like this for free! They need to be in the Rock Library. ;D
Thanks Seth. I like the new trim job.
thanks all ^^
@mr-miley : i truely understand your statement about light ! i am just looking for p-w techniques to try to improve my renders and sometimes ... well... sometimes it's better without it ;D
to be honest, i loved the light i did for my previous render (here (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Eau-01xL4yI/SLhtq-XINSI/AAAAAAAAAQ8/mrLoRXcZ_KQ/s1600-h/au+bord+de+l+eau.bmp)) but i didn't manage to do something as good in this one... i was lazy...
I like the original one more. Nice stones.
Have fun, the renderosity people will kill you with comments.
The shape of those clouds look like vueclouds so much :)
But these have too much detail in areas where they are not highlighted, making it looking weird a little.
hehe ^^
I love this version now, the plastic looking plant took away the appeal of the rest of the image for me before. Now though, it looks great, top job again, man! :)

Lol, not half! I rarely see any constructively critical/helpful comments on my images at Renderosity, except for Joel(yes, you, Phyllo ;)) it's the last place I upload to, and usually only as an afterthought, if there's nothing else left to click on my screen.
