This image is totally different from what I usually do ;). It began as an attempt to imitate the forest from the movie Advent Children (say what you will about the plot and script, you can't deny that the CG in that movie is incredible). It still holds fairly true to that effort, but this is definitely an attempt to create a more artistic and stylized image along with a few surreal elements instead of my normal attempts towards photorealism.
There is more postwork than usual done through Photoshop, mainly because I wanted to work with it in HDR. That helped somewhat, but I still feel that the image isn't as balanced as it could be, and I don't have the Photoshop skills (or the time to develop them at the moment) to bring it to that level. If anyone wants to give it a shot, drop me a PM and I'll send you the .exr file.
Anyways, comments and critiques are appreciated :).
nice... but i don't see anyhting except the trees... and guessing water... maybe it's my screen...
Is anyone else having troubles? I'm on an LCD screen, so I know I don't get blacks as deep as most people, but I tried to make sure that it was plenty bright... :(.
WOW!!
this is amazing paul i love the trees but most of all i love the water i have never seen water look like that before in terragen i love the light underneath it as well!
overall its an amazing and original piece well done indeed ;)
edit
no i can see this image fine im only on a little 15 inch im going to send it over to my 21 inch i see have a better look at it there ;D
Looks great on my monitor, the trees have a good glow on and there's just enough to light the ground. A nice change from the everyday. Awesome work, sweet water :)
damn screen on mine !
sooo... can you tell me what you see on the ground guys ?
@seth93: there's water on the bottom of the image, looks like glycerol to me. And there's also a green spot of light underneath (?) the water surface. Between the trees there seems to be sand couch. :)
yeah i see the water and the ... errr... green light... but what about the ground below the trees ? ^^

Perhaps you could try increasing the brightness and lowering the contrast on your monitor settings?
hehe yeah... except it works fine with everything else ^^
i used the nvidia stuff to calibrate it...
anyway, as far as i can see (the trees) you did a good job and used TG2 in a new way !
Hmm... well, I'm sorry it doesn't work. Thanks for trying ;).
Thanks to everyone else so far for commenting.
OB I really like this render, very creative use of TG. Lighting looks perfect on my monitor.
Very different. Great idea. Coming from you, I'd say this is daring. Cool job.
You should try Photomatix.
here is an hdri version i did in photomatix with a little bit of postwork in cs3 ;)

Spooky. ???<-- Me afraid...walking through the park, looking over my shoulder. And stuff.
Interesting... the trees look a little washed out, but I like how you brought out the glow.
