Title: Gooseneck Pinnacle
Post by: schmeerlap on September 08, 2008, 04:21:13 PM
In my last post I sought advice on the best way to create an isolated peak. I got some really useful info from you guys.  I hope I've put your suggestions to good use in this scene.  A negative Crater with X,Y,and Z Redirect Displacement Shader was used for the feature (gooseneck) peak.
A Fractal Terrain blended with an image map mask was used for the peaks in the background.

The peak is very good and definitely adds interest to the image.  I also really like the textures on the lower ground - the detail and color choice is very good.  My only complaints are that the peaks in the background are a little too rounded and CG looking, and the texture for the higher parts of the image isn't that attractive.

I agree with O_B, except I can see it being the beginning of something else, like the beginning of a story or the start of an animation.
