when using a defualt layer with opacity below 0.5, the terrain/world disappears?
anyone else have this problem...know what's happening?

Nope. Never seen that.
The opacity parameters in the Default Shader affect the opacity of the surface (object), not the shader itself. At the moment the renderer only supports full opacity or full transparency, nothing in between. Opacities below 0.5 are treated as fully transparent; opacities above 0.5 are treated as fully opaque.
