Title: Floraworks Opening
Post by: old_blaggard on September 26, 2008, 05:52:18 PM
I want to let you all know that Floraworks will be opening tonight around midnight CST.  Floraworks is a 3D vegetation company put together by myself and lightning, whom you know for his great plants.  We're running an opening sale through Sunday, so until then all of our products will be 10% off their normal prices.

You can check it out at www.floraworks3d.com.

Congratulations and good luck guys. Looks good so far

Can I make a couple of suggestions?

1. There are no pics on the main store page. Might be a good idea to treat this page as a 'shop window' showing potential customers what they might be able to get to keep them interested? (Lets you show off as well!)

2. Provide direct links from one plant category to the others when browsing so that the user does not have to keep going back to the main store page

just my 2 pence worth

all the best   :)

Thanks for the comments, peejay.  We'll definitely take them under advisement.

Ok

now there's a problem. I just tried to order but the only payment option you have is paypal. Gotta tell you I "HATE" paypal. For me it is an absolute deal breaker, I will not use it.

Are you likely to have other payment options at some point in the future? ???

We might be able to offer something else in the future, but right now it's our only option.  However, we have it set up so that you don't even need a Paypal account to pay and can just pay via credit card, with Paypal acting as our payment processor.

I'm all in favour of paypal.

On a different note, please include the polycount for each tree. This is absolutely vital information for most artists.

I've ordered two from the site already and working on the third.  LOL  Lookin' good!!

Keep it up, you two.  Some things just take time.

bertrand - thanks for the tip.  I'll get on that as soon as possible.

Glad you like them, Calico :).

What's so bad about paypal?

I have a credit card and most of the time I use that but I do also have a paypal account I use now and again, it seems ok to me. In fact a see a lot of uproar when companies allow credit card payment but not paypal because almost anyone can open a paypal account but not everyone has access to a credit card.

I have since updated the product info with the poly count information (vertices and faces).

I think you should also put the Latin name of each plant.
This is because if you are looking at non english customers it would be quite difficult for them to find the right species.
keep up the good work!

Today we added nine new objects to our store and lowered the prices on the trees.

By the way, I realize that some people may not want me to be advertising too much in the forums.  If anyone ever thinks it's gone too far, please let me know and I'll stop.

We've updated our site once again.  We have one new product for this week, but the big news is support for multiple currencies.  We now accept most major currencies in the Western world.

Maybe he doesn't use photoshop or 3d studio for his plant creation.

I believe that he uses xfrog for planet creation and vray for rendering the images which I assume he has purchased. Although he may use photoshop for post processing the vray images.

Hmm this is serious and although I understand your position I would advise against potentially un-provable accusations, particularly as this is your first post on this forum and your hiding your contact details. Seems more like vendetta (spiteful) rather than a vigilante (standing up for what "you" feel is err "right") attitude. I'm sure that lightning will be able to provide copies of any licenses and this will all be cleared up.

I appreciate your concerns on this topic. While Jack appears to have pirated software in the past, he explicitly informed me before we launched the site that he purchased legal licenses to all of the software he is currently using. All of the models for sale on Floraworks have been created using legally licensed software. I can guarantee you that all of the tools that I have used for the website design, marketing, etc. are completely paid for and legal. If you have further concerns about this, please email me at carpenter@floraworks3d.com and I'll do my best to clear them up.

I don't understand. V-Ray is a plugin only for 3ds max.
So if he has rendered something with V-Ray he must have been using 3ds max :-\

I'm going to defend Lightning here, those statements are old and thus are not applicable to present circumstance. If your sole purpose for registering with this forum is to deface a member then you should come with far better evidence.

And that should be the last we hear about pirating at floraworks!

You make great models, very realistic, and you've earned every cent (or penny) you sell.
That would also help you purchase any other software you need to buy in the future...

Keep going!

If someone is going to make accusations like that they should at least have the balls to show their face. I have my suspicions it's someone from TerraNuts.

I thought it might be worth mentioning that in my experience, educational licences generally have a specific provisio that they are not to be used for commercial purposes.

http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentedition/eligibility.html

http://www.adobe.com/ap/education/students/studentedition/faq.html

There is that difficulty of the whole 'buy an academic copy when you are a student, but what happens when you graduate and want to go pro' issue which you may well be experiencing.

Just a heads up, in case you werent aware.

Lightning!!  Ef this and Ef that!!  It has been a very long time since I have laughed so hard.  You made me laugh man.  I wish you the very best and I know that you have worked your ASS off creating some very beautiful objects.  When, (not if), you make it big, you have a lot of pay back that you need to take care of!!  Take care of it!!  Do something good for the world.

I apologize in advance for blowing off some steam, but here is my observation... If you steal 25 cents from the coffee fund, you are a low-life thief who everyone will shun.  If you steal a 150 dollar television set during a flood, a police officer will likely try to shoot you.  If you steal 500 million from the government, you are a business man -- and considered a good one at that.  So, what is wrong with that picture...

Unfortunately, our e-commerce system doesn't allow us to issue gift certificates right now, but if you want to buy one, drop us an email at support@floraworks3d.com and we'll try to set something up.

Additionally, we have released several new trees today, including two new hero trees. Check out the site to look at them :).
