Title: Deadline renderfarm question
Post by: ethan on October 08, 2008, 01:27:57 PM
Hello TG people. I'm currently at Frantic Films creating cloudscapes for an upcoming film. We integrated Terragen into Frantic's Deadline manager - yeah! However what the module in Deadline calls for are TGW ( world ) and TER ( Terrain ) files - not the typical TGD's that we save out projects with. My question is how to break apart a TGD into TGW and TER files so it can be submitted in Deadline.

I suppose this might just be an error in the deadline plugin due to it being rushed out (The programmers here are way overburdened )  but I thought I would ask straight from the maker if this is correct protocol and how its done.

A TER can be created by using the LWO Export function.  There are some posts about it around here in more detail.

Not sure about the TGW.

The TGW file is the world config file for Terragen 0.9 and older and is very different than the TGD. The TER file is still used by the preview version of Terragen 2.

Hi Ethan,

Was this plugin done for TG2? Sounds like it was done with TG v0.9. TG2 doesn't use TGW files at all, there is no way to do so. You can use TER files, actually can't think how or if you save them from TG2 right now, I'll take Calico's word for it :-), but you can certainly use existing ones. However that's not much use to you if you're using procedural terrains, which are saved in the TGD file.

There is a file detailing what's taken on the command line for TG2 in the Documentation folder in the download.

Regards,

Jo

To save any generated terrain.ter in TG2, simply right-click the GREEN terrain generate/load node and hit 'save file as'. There are only 2 options to save as, - .exr or .ter.
There's no need for the LWO exporter to create a .ter file.

Indeed the R&D dept created the plugin for TG .9. Oops. They have a new now for TG2. Should be part of the commercial distribution of Deadline very soon.
