Title: max render size
Post by: ethan on October 10, 2008, 01:02:20 PM
Hello - curious what the current - reliable-  maximum render size in TG2? The basic machine specs here are duel Intel quads with 8GB ram.

Tnx

There isn't one in Terragen 2 deep, only 800x600 in the free edition. The time a render takes depends greatly on the frame size so time constraints will be the main influence but it all depends on the machine. 2 quad cores and 8GB of RAM (I'm assuming a 64bit operating system) will be able to run renders into 5 digit dimensions. They'll just take a long time.

I recently did a 6k by 4k render which took two Dual Quad core machines a combined 180 hours to complete. I don't think there is a size limit, but I was more comfortable setting this off into cropped areas to stitch up later, in case something fell over. Which happily didn't.

The size limit will in part depend on the memory usage of the TGD and there are many different factors influencing that.

I think that there must be a theoretical upper limit to the size of image the TG2 can output, what this upper limit is I do not know.

Regards to you.
