My first image that I felt wasn't a complete disaster :D. It's pretty simple, just slapped a few powerfractals and a low-level cumulus layer on the planet. I adjusted the contrast in Paint.net and that was about it with the postwork. Feel free to share your ideas on it :).
P.S: Sorry for the small size, I have yet to purchase the deep version so 800 x 600 was the best I could get.

This is pretty nice. Your stars could be more realistic with varying degrees of brightness. You could include something to the terrain to make it more interesting. Still, I like the lighting and the emphasis on the "diamond ring" effect like Mahnmut said.
