Title: question about different versions of terragen
Post by: skyview5 on November 04, 2008, 05:50:06 PM
i've been using version 8, and the new terragen2, i've never tried version 9. terragen 2 is too slow on my computer, version 8 works great. my question is, if i register version 8, would i be better off registering and using v9 instead of v8? can i still register v8, or is it too old?  also, is there a big diff between 8 and 9? thanks

You can't register version 0.8 anymore, only 0.9.43 here. (http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/registerc.shtml) I'd recommend 0.8 as I think most members here would if you feel that your computer cannot handle Terragen 2, however remember that Terragen 2 is a LOT more advanced than anything before it and so will be slower for the time being.
As far as differences, you can find them here;

You only need one... TG2! ;)

Terragen 0.9 is just an updated and improved version of 0.8. I would strongly recommend upgrading to 0.9 as there really is nothing you lose (and much to gain). TG2 on the other hand is a completely different application and may indeed be too demanding for your system. But of course it is also much more capable and realistic.

I have the same problem, i.e. my notebook probably isn't good enough for TG 2. Therefore, as a beginner, I use version 9.43 and love it. I would recommend you try this. I have registered my version and can therefore use bigger terrains which makes a big difference. :)
