Hey,
I' ve tried to smoke test TG2 and my new system... and have been surprised of the results. On a ~400km^2 terrain (you see ~80% of it), I've dropped two populations of high qualitiy trees, with a total of 8 million instances. In 0.7 quality, the image below rendered in just 15 minutes (!).
The RAM required just crossed the 2GB line, I thought it would require more than that.
So in the end, it wasn't a smoke test at all.
Don't look at the image with your artists eye, there's nothing to see here, just a plain heightfield with the two populations. I just thought you might be curious.

That's ridiculous fast Frank! :D
Maybe you could try a bit more displaced terrain en higher quality populations and rendersettings?
Sure will have to make your new machine a bit warmer ;)
Thanks Frank. Reminds me a little bit of Scotland. Are you headed that way or are you priming for your LOTR entry?
Add water, that'll smoke 'm...

neither of these. That's just for testing, I will not develop it further.

Frank

probably :-) ... but it's more likely that the scene would simply render longer but not look better :-D
