USS Constitution on the high seas. The ship's off the shelf and modified to work (to a degree) in TG2.

Pretty neat work Jim!
Getting the lighting through the sails must have been quite some tinkering, isn't it? Nice translucency :)
'Simple' good clouds and lighting. The water is a tad too dark to my taste, but it fits the scene best probably.
Like the highlights in the water as well.
In overall good work!

Great Job, Jim! Looks fantastic. I would agree with Martin's comment regarding the water, though, but it's not a major point.
The ship is awesome - where have you got that from and what did you exactly have to do to make it work with TG2?
Thanks,
Frank
Excelent image, the translucency really makes it
:)

Wow. Lovin' it. The clouds are perfect here. Great model, too.
Cheers guys. The model's here: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/index.php?ViewProduct=51875&
The translucency was actually the easy bit, but splitting the model into multiple parts in another app so that no more than 16 materials were present in each part was the most time consuming part. A pity the multi-shader doesn't allow you to input an image map to control reflectivity. What really did surprise me was running the obj through Poseray actually messed up a lot of the texturing, whereas the straight export from XSI worked (sort of) fine.
The water is a Lake object, but with a suitable World Machined heightfield plugged into a water shader to give the big swells, then that water shader has a big scale for the medium waves, and they in turn plug into another water shader for the smaller detail. They all then plug into a surface shader to give it the whitecaps.
I realised the translucency was essential after trawling the web looking at hundreds of photos of tall ships ;)
Very nice work. Did the model come fully rigged, or did you have to make the sails furled yourself?
Damn that's awesome. :o
the model comes w/ furled or unfurled sails
One hell of a good work!
I'd only add some nearly transparent cumulus above water to rise the feeling of depth in the image and it's purely perfect :)
I'd love to see a widescreen render of this..maybe a 16:10 for a certain desktop monitor...
absolutly amazing
An excellent seascape. The translucency in the sails is magic. I thought that was a fractally displaced sea with water shader; and it works a treat (for me it's not to dark given the overcast sky). And I like the cloud cover and the overall tone.

The ship really looks magnificent there. Love the mood.
I want to see this in your ocean animation. ;D

Indeed, I want to see that too.
