Title: Rock Enigma
Post by: choronr on January 02, 2009, 02:05:34 AM
Render time a little more than three hours; creation time about a three days. Thanks to the many who have contributed their files and work on the many things that constitute the composition of this scene:

•   Cottonwood Tree (autumn leaves) – lightning
•   Groundcover – lightning
•   Grass – klas
•   Hanana Rose flower – Bobby Stahr
•   Cirrus Clouds – FrankB ...Visit Frank's site at http://nwda.webnode.com/terragen-2-tech-packs/ where he offers some fantastic cloud file at very reasonable prices.
•   Rocks/stones – dandelO ...Visit the Planetside forum 'rock library' to download the file which contains numerous sizes of rock, stones and pebbles.

This image was a lot of fun creating. I was inspired to create this picture after reading some articles about 'Moving Rocks' in the Raceway area of the Death Valley in California. For more than 50 years now, scientists and enthusiasts have pondered on how these rocks (several hundred pounds and more) are able to move on level ground leaving their tracks in the dry lake bed. Many theories are offered; yet, science is baffled as to the cause of their movement. Interested? Good deployment of foliage and stones, and good overall realism in scene. I like those clouds (I'll check them out, for sure). Your boulders have some undulations to encounter in their travel, so they may decide to stay put. The actual Racetrack terrain is a lot flatter and given icy conditions and strong winds, movement is credible. A good project for a webcam, I'd say, to catch the blighters moving. Thanks for the info, Bob. Fascinating stuff, and excellent work on your render.

Looks very good. My only thing is the rocks climbing the wall.
