Title: Calm Lake
Post by: RArcher on March 14, 2009, 02:30:01 PM
Hadn't really planned on posting this one because I don't really like it but it took so damn long to render I figured I might as well.  More time should have been spent on the vegetation and surfacing.  The only part that I do really like is the tree distribution on the far shore leading up to the mountain.

This render took over 60 hours at 0.75 detail, 2/2 GI.  I was forced to increase the atmosphere samples to 160 to minimize the grain but it still wasn't enough.  The clouds as well had very high sample amounts.  I should probably spend more time on it, but I really don't feel like rendering it again.

Great image but I can see what your saying. Why is it so blurred? Too much/wrong kind of AA?

The blur was added to both minimize the grain in the clouds and the crappy trees (set at medium by mistake) and to give a bigger focus to the mountain.  Here is the unaltered image from TG.

Excellent sunrise and great lighting on the clouds.

If the sun was slightly less powerful you'd probably have less grain in the clouds. Also it'd look less like an explosion.
