Title: Need a little help
Post by: buzzzzz1 on March 24, 2009, 12:56:28 PM
Hi Gang,

Here's my problem, I purchased a ship which has 31 textures and I don't have the software or knowledge to prepare this thing to only use 16 because of the limit. I can run it through PoseRay and apply the textures and such but don't know how to address the texture limit.  If Anyone out there who would be willing to please IM me.

Thanks!
Jay

What I do is just put the textures I'm going to see in the MTL at the top.  Otherwise, I don't know any other way.

Hi Jay,

I'll write up a little tutorial about how to do it in PoseRay, it is fairly simple when you know what buttons to push.

Thanks, yeah, that's what I normally do too. Just hate doing it half way, that's all.  :)

That would be a great help and much appreciated. I'll keep an open eye.  I will owe you half my Kingdom!   ;)

I think the only way to use the model with all textures is to split it into two parts.
For the dragon here (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=5287.0) I imported the .obj into blender with 'Separate objects by OBJ..' -> Material set to on, then selecting 16 objects and exporting them as Wavefront (.obj). After that the same with the second set of objects.

Here you go Jay.  Hopefully this makes sense and I didn't miss anything.  If I did and it doesn't work, let me know.

No problem.  I'll slowly fix up the terrible spelling too.  :o

I assume most will know to save the new divided parts with different names not over writing the original and each other.  Didn't notice that in there?  ;)

Now all I need to do is figure out how to break my Main Mast in half for the ship wreck.  ;)
