Title: I Have A Confession To Make :(
Post by: jackblack on April 02, 2009, 10:41:29 PM
All of you guys are going to hate me after this and will probably never help me or anything after this, but I'm going to come clean anyways.

I have a cracked version of Terragen 2, I wanted to buy the thing originally, but I couldn't find on the website how to do that. I have not made any money off of Terragen, I'm not that good, but I wanted to play with the animation and get bigger sizes ect., I wanted to learn more about it (nor did I ever plan on using my cracked version for profit, I'm not a pro artist, I used to be many years ago, but I'm not any more nor do I wish to be) so I decided to get a cracked version. My license won't work on the new update, so is there some way I can purchase Terragen 2 and will my license work for all the updates and versions?

Sorry to tell you guys, also, I don't recall where I got my cracked version, I think it was on katzforums.om, but I don't recommend that you go to that site cause there's a virus on it (I think it's conficker).

Thanks,

-Jimmy

Thanks for posting that!

So with the prepurchase do they send me a license or something (Of, btw, don't worry about me uploading it, I don't do that kinda stuff, I was just really desperate to get TG2), do I get TG2 right away or do I have to wait for the final release, the "Gold Edition"?

You can buy it from this page (http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/tg2/prepurchase_tg2.shtml). See, it wasn't so hard to find, was it :)

The rest I won't comment on  ::)

edit : cyphyr beat me to it. Would you still "come clean" if your license still worked with the update ?

Yeah, simply because I do appreciate this program and wish to see many advancements on it, only one way o get that done.

Believe it or not I was not able to find that prepurchase thing on the main site, I looked all over on there for a way to buy it, but never found it, when I originally started using TG2 I couldn't find where to purchase it either.

Ok, I just purchased TG2 Animation.

How much do you think it will be in the future?

Good that you now see sense!

But just so you know, you cant justify your actions with the lame excuses you gave - so don't even try as it just makes you look silly. You were a theif and that's all there is to it. You'll just have to accept that - we have.

Search Google "buy terragen 2" - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&hs=d4z&q=buy+terragen+2&btnG=Search&meta=

And it doesn't matter that you were using the product only on a recreational basis either (or is it alright to walk into a sports shop and take a football without paying just because you wanted a kick-about, whilst not harbouring any ambitions of turning pro?). If Planetside thought it was alright, they wouldn't provide a near-uncrippled demo version for people like yourself to experience (and that's probably more than the sports shop does).

At the end of the day, thieves deprive companies (Planetside here) of income. That's food on table; clothes on kids' back; money to pay bills with etc. No matter how unfair it may seem to you, it's just not yours to say how it should be used.

That said, I don't think anyone hates you. We're all human and have all stolen at various times in our lives when we were weak. The good thing is to realise why we did it, and in future to rise above that no-matter-what. That way we can feel proud that we have integrity - and that counts for a lot.

I think that depends on a lot of things. I'm having a hard time just trying to think what the 'regular' price of TG2 might be let alone the animation option. The market is definitely different now than when TG2 was first announced. Now, every second application is capable of a solution that may diminish TG's appeal for some. Bearing this in mind PS might price really competitively, just to be viable.

There're other ways of looking at it too...

What's the point in making such confession anyway? Will it change anything? If you want to buy original software then go on.

Gee wiz guys, I seriously could'nt find on the planetside website where it buy it, not only did I want to clear my conscience I also wanted to buy it, but I couldn't find where on there website to buy it, it's not listed on there website, notice I say LISTED, it's not listed on there website, or at least to where I could see it, all the searches I found on the internet were reviews of TG2. That was my original reason for downloading (notice I did not steal anything, someone else did and shared it with me) the cracked version, that person probably actually bought the license. Let me ask you something, do any of you guys burn cds and maybe make a copy for your friends and whoever? It's the same thing. Anyways, I'm glad I bought myself the license.

And who the hell is Hiedi Campbell?

Perhaps Heidi Campbell is the registred user whose license was uploaded by herself or stolen and uploaded by another.

I'm sorry but using the excuse not able to find the purchase, the link is on almost every single page, and those that it isn't, theres links to obvious places where it would be, like the FAQ. It's great that you decided to buy it... its just saying you couldn't find the purchase area but you could find the illegal version kinda shows where your efforts went.

I do agree the site isn't made the best, but thats why they have a new version that looks like it should be released soon, probably to coincide with the full release of tg2.

Nope. I tell them to use the free version and if they want better picture quality and/or larger renders, to buy it.

Heidi Cambells license has been uploaded many times Dublin has been working to find the various uploads and report them.

Because this sort of stuff drives our price up.

Anyway, if Heidi's serial number was hijacked, it needs to be expunged and she should be in contact with Planetside.  I would want the same from anyone, if my serial number was stolen.

You made 40 posts on this forum before but not one of them asked "Where is the link to purchase?"  Your excuse is thin.

This part is laughable: "notice I did not steal anything, someone else did and shared it with me."

In my opinion its a difference between use a cracked version of, lets say photoshop, and tg2.
Planetside is not adobe. Nor Microsoft or even Maxon.
My feeling tells me, that they probably need the money.....

not anymore :-[
the task of doing this is just two big for me i tried to get help but no one was bothered plus a torrent of tg2 has been uploaded to the pirate bay trackers so their is no chance of getting it of their :(

but it great that planetside has blocked the heidi campbell from tg2 gold i mean you can download it fine but when you install tg2 gold and run it with the cracked license it comes up with an error ;D!
which is pretty funny for us people who buy software but really annoying if you are a pirate, good on ya planetside you listened to my advice ;)

i think my work here is done with the anti piracy battle whats the point in having a cracked version of tg2 if you can't even update it to gold lol!
Title: Re: I Have A Confession To Make :(
Post by: Oshyan on April 03, 2009, 10:38:47 PM
We have indeed blocked the keyfile in the final release. We will continue to watch out for pirate versions being uploaded and block any associated keys in successive updates. Where it is possible to get illegal downloads removed, we will try to do so, but as has been said, some downloads are virtually impossible to stop. It is easier to handle it on our end to some degree. But your efforts, Dublin, are certainly appreciated.

Obviously we don't condone piracy in any way, and I'm certainly disappointed that someone would not register "because they couldn't find out how". If nothing else we are always available via email for such questions, and the contact emails should at least be easy to find. The forum is also a great place to ask such questions. So this does seem like a pretty hollow excuse. The new site should also help address this.

That being said if the original poster has taken it upon themselves to come clean and, even better, to buy the software, well I can only be happy about that. We do offer the free version with fairly few limitations in the hopes that people will not be driven to piracy and, if they are hobbyists, will be able to use the software for their more limited needs until they outgrow the limitations and buy. I hope that strategy is ultimately effective, and its one I strongly believe in.

No, its not "ok". My point was just that a TG user has to know that the Money from as most users as possible is needed to keep Planetside alive (i guess) anf keep them working. ;)
Planetside is just not as big as Adobe or Microsoft. And it should be the interest of every user to get a V2.5, V3.0... (this will take some more time, but also programmers need to eat something).

I was out one morning broke and somewhat hungry so I picked up a roadkilled bunny I happened to find. I was going about my business of skinning the critter and some city dude wandered into my camp and said "you know those rabbits have deseases that could make people over in my camp sick," and he suggested that I desist in my food preparation and do "what was right." says I "If your so damn worried about getting sick the why in blazes are you moving closer to my camp, just to let me know of your paranoia?" May god save us all from the so called do "gooders" of the world as they mistake people who are hungry or busy as someone who gives a damn about their little crusades to wrest the holy grail of intellectual property rights from the infidels of third world poverty. So I do today as I did then, and throw my rabbit's guts in your face so you will go away!. I pay Planetside for their goods and that is the extent of my interest in their financial circumstances, this forum is where I come to learn a very difficult set of parameters needed to be productive with that product. I don't feel that this so called security business is apropriate in the campground of TG2 education.

i actually feed the opposite, it is appropriate in the campground of TG education - simply because I want the education to continue. Someone stealing their product hurts their resources. another reason is this, as a hobbyist, i could have used the free version forever and lived very happily with its limitations. I purchased the deep version because I want to support a product that I like and that I can grow into if I want to.  Additionally the members of this forum and Planetside staff have become "friends" in the electronic sense. I does me no harm to  help support their endeavours. If i see it on the net or become aware anyone stealing their product, I will tell them. beyound that i will sit back and enjoy the ride.

Agreed with folder.  This may be a campground of TG education, but its also the OFFICIAL forums, and official campground of education.  We don't really just sit around and go "oh you have pirated copy? no worries, heres a few tutorials on how to use it."  We want people to buy the software if they want to use the features that come with it.  You can do plenty with the free version.

I played around with the free version for awhile, until I got to where I wanted to be able to do better renders and more populations of objects.  It was definitely worth the price to me even though I don't have any commercial profit from it.

Also Planetside does have very awesome student prices that I didn't even know about when I first purchased it (which made me happy being a college student and all), and gave me a reason to upgrade to animation too ;) I have yet to really use the animation abilities but I plan to soonish.

I actually really love these kinds of discussions :D. I think, because we've grown with this product, several of us visiting the forum many times a day, that we feel a need to protect it. Same with everything. If you bought sweets for you and your friends to share you wouldn't want random people to just come and grab your watch. ok it's a loose analogy and I'm not entirely sure it has any point...hmm.

@neuspadrin: can't spell your name without looking ;D the animation module will be brilliant for you when it comes out then. At the minute it's pretty tricky to create smooth changes to clouds and things but the animation module will, hopefully, provide a much friendlier interaction. And yet another reason to just buy the software, because it'll be provided free, and you won't be able to get it through pirate copies.

but yeh currently the limited animation i've done, i've used terranim just to play around (thus my creation of terranim2chan in the download section).  I can't wait til the animation module is out too for some real fun :) .

The subject was Terragen 2 security problems that some say are threatening the functional stability of the software users and Planetside's economic future, and my argument though somewhat convoluted is that I would like to see less security BS and more of TG2 educational content here. Is that a plain enough connection to Terragen for you?
