Title: New tutorials in the new wiki
Post by: FrankB on April 04, 2009, 04:40:41 AM
Hi all,

as the new wiki is not yet linked to from anywhere except Oshyan's announcemet, I tought I'd send a note here that the nwda.webnode.com "gang" - Seth, TU and me - have added their tutorials to the wiki: http://www.planetside.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Terragen_2_Tutorials

Cheers,
Frank

Note to Osyhan: it would be extremely helpful to have a help section that explains users how to add and modify the wiki, and how the wiki works in general.

Thank you for the tutorials that you guys do.  They are very helpful.

I updated the page to make it a little more user friendly.  I linked the titles for the tutorials and added labels for the links that were already there. Also linked directly to the DOF tutorial instead of the main page on the site.  Feel free to change anything i have done.

Thanks folks!  I'm hitting up this stuff after a manual party.

Our Wiki runs on the standard MediaWiki system, which Wikipedia runs on. There are tons of resources out there for how to use it. So rather than recreate any of that ourselves, I've linked to some good resources in the Help section of our Wiki: http://www.planetside.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Help:Contents
I am also adding a link to the Help section on the front page. I hope that will help people understand the system better. It's really a community resource, so it's up to you guys to edit it and keep it well organized. But with the strength of this community, I'm sure that won't be a problem once people get the hang of the system. :)

I appreciate your help on this one Devin, thanks :)
However, I intentionally created a link to the main page, because there's also other stuff to see ;)
Therefore I chose to give a short instruction how to get there easily.
It's similar to supermarket-design ;)
So if you please could reverse that little adjustment? Thanks again!

You can always use the History tab to check and revert changes. :)

Yeah, they're really cool, I quite like them. I just wish more had WYSIWYG editors and were easier to setup categories and stuff in. They seem a little unnecessarily convoluted.

agreed... a lot of understanding their power requires reading up and completely understanding them.  Really wish they would simplify down a lot of it.

another link you might like to hand out oshyan is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Cheatsheet

a very quick down n dirty version of what you gave with easy to see results.

*edit*
oh you do have it ;) just had to read further.. haha, good :)

For the DOF tutorial I took the link off the title and put the other link back to the main page.
Sorry about that, i should have known that you did that for a reason.

Maybe we should create a general heading for FrankB's site

I don't think it's appropriate to link to the main page when the link is supposed to be for a specific tutorial. I think that for a community resource you should link to exactly what you say you're linking to. Provide a separate link to the main page if you want to.

The supermarket layout that tricks you into seeing more stuff is good for a commercial site designed to sell as much as possible, but for a shared community resource where everyone has to play nice with other it's not really the way to do it ;)  You can still add a separate link as long as people know where they're going :)

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I think you made a good point here. Besides it is probably also more user-friendly.
When I'm back home I'll check the wiki for correct links and if necessary will adjust them.

Are you planning on adding content yourself (some time)?

Cheers,
Martin

I see the link was already fixed, so my apologies for the inconvenience, it is now linked directly :) enjoy!

Can I make a request for a sunset tutorial? I want to make pictures that look like this:

If you can include the how to on the glowing sunbeams in TG2, that would be awesome. I've gotten pretty good at it in TG0.9, but haven't used TG2 much yet.

Thanks in advance.

please look here as well: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=6035.0

I'm in the process of finalizing the development for the Sunset Pack II, and this sky photo resembles one of the presets quite some.
